A cinematographer friend of mine has brought up an interesting point. In the rush to use a multitude of still lenses w/adapters on the AF100, will collimation of some of these lenses become necessary to assure sharp focus through out?
Motion picture cameras required their lenses to be collimated periodically. The advent of video lenses with user adustable back focus eliminated the need for collimation.
Thus, will still photo lenses, especially zooms, bring back the need for collimation?
I recall in Phil Bloom's audio commentary to his excellent video shot for Panasonic in Japan that he complained that footage from his personal Nikon 80-200 mm lens was soft and thus not used in his piece.
Could it be that his Nikon lens required collimation ?
