Now, that I'm back on campus and I've learned a thing or two about my DVX100, I wanna know does anyone out there think there is a chance for me to make some extra cash while I'm at school with my camera? Can any one please help me out???

.... well you're not telling us what kind of stuff you are interested in. Based on the fact that you havea dvx + college, my assumption would be to check out the dorm " Industry " ;) if you're " Up " for it hehe. pun definitely intended.

give us some more info. what do you have equipment wise, narrative or documentary? How much free time do you have?

I only have the DVX, some lights from Lowe's (250 watts and 500 watts), and an external mic. I love doing both documentary and narrative. I free time from 10 am to 10 pm on Mondays and Fridays, none on Tuesdays and about 4-6 on any other weekday. My weekends are pretty open in the evenings.

One word: Weddings.

There are always couples that cannot afford a professional wedding videographer and thus they reach out to film schools and to college students. I'd keep my ear out for that kind of thing.

If you have insurance, or trust your peers and like to live dangerously, you can always rent it out to film students for like $50 a day. It all depends on your particular college's film program, how many kids they have and how many cameras are available.

I had a friend who did this with her DVX100, but this was back in 2001-2005, our school had PD150s and DSR-250s for the freshmen/sophmore classes and some of those guys just HAD to shoot in 24p. So she'd rent it out for $50 a day.

Depending on the college you're in, I know a few people who did videos for the frats and sororities on campus - either 'party' videos, or end of the year 'highlight' type stuff.

id strongly recommend you save 300 bucks and purchase yourself a glidecam 2000 pro.

There are always crappy bands around college campuses that want music videos. Just make sure you get the cash up front.

These ideas are great, thanks. I think the frat thing is really good. I'm just trying to think of the best way to get the word out. My campus is funny about flyers.

does your school have an email/bbs where you can post events, or other stuff. back when i was in school we had several for events, campus questions, and even a mini craigslist type of thing you coudl subscribe to. Always a good place to find a cheap couch.

Go to fraternities and sororities and offer your services for recruitment videos. Tell them all that the other fraternities and sororities are already doing it and they are going to be missing out on a key rush tool.

Facebook and/or Myspace
Most, if not all, colleges have a network on facebook. Also, almost everybody and their mother has a myspace account.
If your school has a news paper you could try posting an add in that as well.

I would approach performing arts group around campus who put on shows and ask if they need a camera man. I made a few bucks last year filming dance concerts for an on-campus group. Keep in mind though that at this level it's a lot of work for very little pay, simply because your average college kids couldn't afford to pay you much anyway.

thank u, thank u, thank u. i went on facebook 2day and contacted some greeks. i have very little experience, should i work for free until i gain more?

Maybe not for free, but you could charge minimal amounts until you have the experience. You could also ask your clientele what they have to offer in terms of payment.
