I took a trip to Tofino to meet up with friends from the mainland who came out to surf. I brought my camera and decided to see what kind of mileage I could get out of Ex-Tele converted shots using a Tamron 70-300 and Pana's 14-140 for some of the surf shots. Long Beach is an incredible beach, but if you're stuck on shore - the distance to subject is huge. Thankfully, the Tamron and Panny lenses covered the distance pretty well. The only downside was the macroblocking. I cleaned some of it up in Neat Video. Next time I will get in the water with a GoPro Hero 2. I've gotta pick one up. I keep wishing I'd win the giveaway - but no.

I have huge respect for camera guys who capture the beautiful surf shots most of us passively watch on-screen. It is truly an artform and I learned lots through the process.
This was by no means a paid gig. Just some fun with friends over Thanksgiving.
The shots camping and in town were caught using a Super Takumar 28 3.5, and Super Takumar 50 1.4
I used a Tamron 17-50mm for the steadycam shots - on the Merlin. Can't wait for the Noktor 12mm 1.6 to come out!
Shot on GH2VK - 720p - unhacked original patch used for stability. Edited in FCPX (which is growing on me)
cheers,
Paul
