Hi,

Received my cokin P filter system today, it's the wide adapter + 3 ND grads (1x nd8 hard, 1x nd8 soft and n4 soft tabacco).

With CC

Footage is grainy, guess i need to put detail to -5 and coring +7

Looks pretty cool.

I've been thinking about getting the cokin p system, myself, but I have a few questions that maybe you can answer.

Is the cokin p large enough to use with the dvx at full wide angle?

Also, I've never seen one in person, and from the pictures I've never been able to tell how the filters keep from falling out. Is it just friction? Is there any way they would they fall out on quick pans and zooms?

Thanks.

@ Luster

I've got the wide version, no vignetting with that one. But you can use only one filter at time! Im planning to buy the regular version so i could make the sky more dramatic (using 2 grads).

I will make a picture this week.

Don't worry about friction, they sit tight, the adapter it self however isnt tight and easily rotates.

just an honest questions, why shoot with a coking filter system on the DVX? As a still photographer (film) i have always frowned on the cokin filter systems as being inferior, i am wondering why someone shooting a digitial format would even consider using the filters you are using (since good postwork will give you a better outcome)?

The reason I've been looking into it is for inexpensive nd grad filters.

With them I'd be able to get detail in the foreground and detail in a brightly lit sky. There's not really a way to do this in post.

As for color filters I'd prefer to do all that in post.

Glen,

You are right, Cokin are made of plastic vs high quality glass for such brand as Tiffen or Schneider, but they do work very well, and are good enough for 35mm photography (I know quite a few pro. photographers that use them from time to time), and certainly fine for SD video. However I would only use the color and grad filters, I would go glass for ND and Polarizers.
You also need to consider the cost factor of $35+ for cokin vs $250+ for Schneider.
