CMOS imagery?

I checked around on this site for impressions of the Sony A1U and other cameras using the CMOS chip. I read some reviews (on other sites) that seemed pretty positive, but I was wondering if people here had any experience with them.

The price seems a bit lower than the FX1, so it seems the most affordable way to get into HDV. Just wondering if people the image quality was close to say, the FX1.

I bought an HC1 recently with the cmos chip. I primarily intended to use the camera for a playback deck for footage gathered with my z1. Also what is nice about the camera is it also plays back 720p footage as well. The JVC hd100 for instance will not play back 1080i footage. It's nice that sony has released cameras that are capable of handling dual formats even at the consumer level. I shot some footage with the camera and I am amazed at the results. The hc1 could easily double as a 2nd unit camera to the fx1 or z1 without any degredation of picture. Also, because the cmos technology is much more power friendly I get almost 2 1/2 hours off the standard battery included with the camera-using the lcd screen as my primary viewfinder. As far as the picture goes I think if you put the z1 picture and the cmos based hc1 picture side by side you would not see any visible difference. Where you will see the difference is in how the lens behaves. Obviously you will not anchieve the same range with the hc1 lens that you will with the fx1 or z1 lens, but for the money for an A1U I think it's a great buy. Hope that helps.

Thanks - I'm very interested in the whole HDV thing, and the A1U seems a good way to get into it. It has the xlr inputs, and if the cmos based picture looks good, then it seems like a good choice.
