C'mon, that's not a field monitor... is it?

Seen at the Mayweather vs Cotto fight...

"But, it would be more difficult for that kid to balance a flat screen on his shoulder." is probably pretty close.
I think thats what they use...when the "hosts" (HBO in this case are asking Mayweather to look over his latest handy work and make comments on the footage during the live broadcast.)
variables that are inherent to flat screens... viewing pitch, brightness/glare, and field tough...probably, its just easier to playback footage of these old field monitors.
Thats my guess at least.

It's also probably a question of upgrading. I'm assuming whoever is in charge of those cameras has been doing this for a long time? Chances are they have a full arsenal of cameras and monitors and equipment. Most likely, for both money and practicality, it would cost them more to upgrade the entire system than to keep it running as is. If it still works, why not?

You guys see any value in using CRTs for editing? I've got an old Sony Trinitron 19" ( Multiscan 400PS )- top of the line in its day. Still works, though less bright and contrasty than my Dell LCD.

Not if you're editing HD.

The monitor in the original post is just for reference. Resolution wasn't critical for that purpose.

I can see that Craig's List add now....

"Monitor Technician needed. No experience necessary. Exceptional upper body strength mandatory.

Credit and free pizza"
