Closed captioning

Hey does anyone know about how to create closed captioning for TV? I need to send in something and they want that.

Thanks for that link. Very helpful. Is this only possible through 3rd party software?

Does it embed in the video file like an mpeg or avi? I can do it for a DVD in Scenarist pretty easily but for broadcast they want it embedded in the actual video file somehow. That software linked above is like $9000.

Hmm, I don't thing Vegas can do closed caption (subtitles yes, closed caption probably not) as this is something that is inserted into the video signal (line 21?) anyhow try the link below lots of techincal specs, I'm not sure if the tool is free :

EDIT::

Woops, hehehe (evil laugh)

this looks free, please read this stuff carefully, and in future help us out by writing a tutorial :)

Sorry Aram, I worked with this a little. It WILL do CC in a WMV file only, for web, not for any other file type. And I assume that means that only a Windows Media Player can read them anyway.

Yeah Mark, there are programs that will do it in one format or the other for flash, media player, powerpoint but non I found does a broadcast legal one except for that expensive program.
I will read up on that Anhar and yeah, its a line in the video signal thats embedded somehow. I will read up on it.

From what I have read so far is that you need to have a text file with all the dialog and sound effects and you have to match up the time codes to each word with code and blah blah blah....
Still trying to figure it out.
