I'm having footage shot on a dvx100a in 24pa mode in India. Before the tapes get shipped back to the U.S., I want them to make a clone of the tapes in case something goes wrong in transit.
We are on a tight budget and I was wondering if it was possible just to have them hookup a consumer dv camcorder via firewire to the dvx100a and then just do a play/record from one camera to the other.
I obviously want the timecode to matchup so I assumed if I did this via firewire, it would be a clone of the original tape and not a duplicate (i.e. using an S-Video cable).
Would this work? Does recording in 24pa mode on the master tape not allow us to use a $300 consumer dv camcorder for cloning? If not, any other inexpensive options people can suggest?
My assumption was that since the dvx100a is recorded on tape at 29.97, any dv camcorder will clone that. But now I'm wondering if the "flags" don't get transferred so it knows which frames to pull from.
Thanks in advance,
Paul
