Clones to DVCAM with Timecode

I'm working with a production that is shooting on the XL2 in 24p advanced mode (the same as the DVX 24p advanced mode, yes?). We are planning to make clones to DVCAM for the edit, but want to make sure to preserve the timecode. Currently we're planning to make the clones directly from the camera through firewire to either a Sony DSR-45 or a DSR-1500a. Will this copy the timecode also, and will it preserve any of the "markers" from shooting? What have you guys all done in the past?

Cloning timecode can be done, but I don't know if either of those products will do it. They probably will, but be sure to check the owner's manuals to see if they can. The DVX can clone timecode, or generate new timecode. Most products don't offer the ability to clone it, they just generate new timecode instead. I would presume the Sony decks you mention do have the clone capability, but it's something you have to verify -- you can't just assume that they will.
