ClipWrap equivalent for Windows wanted...

Meantime...

5DtoRGB from rarevison works very well.

I transcoded some mts to Prores 422 and took it into Resolve no problem at all.

ffmpeg command line can rewrap.

If you want I could knock up something quick (after new year) in Visual Basic Express that interfaces with ffmpeg for a GUI or mass folder rewrap to X format.

Interesting ....but looks very complicated for a mere cameraman ( like me) to use.

The thing is, would re-wrapping the header on AVCHD clips work in resolve, even if we could do it?

I imagine the issue is actually with Resolve being able to deal with the codec itself rather than the wrapper.

Short of the boys at BlackMagic actually adding support for AVCHD I think re-encoding is the only option

Watch this space.

Thomas Worth (Rarevision) has just sent me a beta version of 5DtoRGB (Windows)

In his own words:

I've added a
"Copy" option to the format list, which does not touch the original
picture. It only copies it to the output.

I will test it this morning for him and have the answer to that immediately CraftyClown.

Fingers crossed because I am kind of excited about it.

Well you've gone and got me all excited now! I have everything crossed!!

CraftyClown

If you are keen to test it your self send me a PM with an email.

I wil link you to the file

Thomas will be fine with that because he offered it to this community to test.

It's very simple.

ffmpeg -i inputfile.ext -vcodec copy outputfile.ext

is the basic form

-vbsf is the bitstream filter to set
-vtag is the tag to set

I've taken HDV from a Z1p and rewrapped it out of a FCP QuickTime capture from tape. (HDV), then rewrapped it back into QuickTime as MPEG-2, the QuickTime MPEG-2 plugin plays and decodes it great on Windows. HDV plugin is Mac only, and -still- doesn't have a Windows release, even though its only like what, 10kb? It's there to stop you from using HDV clips from FCP on other platforms.

End rant.

Oh there is also WinFF I just found by googling, FFMpeg front end GUI. http://winff.org/html_new/ - pretty basic not sure if rewrapping is possible without adding -vcodec copy into additional parameters field.

AviDemux is brilliant and easy to use, easy rewrapping, but it's only output container formats (to rewrap into) are: AVI, MKV, MP4, OGM, FLV, MPEG video, and MPEG transport and program streams.

Also AVANTI is ffmpeg frontend and works just fine, in the codec selection, just select copy, and select your container format, which you get a few more to choose from including QuickTime MOV http://avanti.arrozcru.com/

Thank you Athiril, a combination of Avanti and FFMpeg does indeed correctly re-wrap the .MTS as an H264 .MOV (The audio however needs to be transcoded, copying seems to return errors)

Give a try to AnotherGUI.
It is a frontend for ffmpeg, ffmbc, Mencoder, VirtualDub, HandBrake etc.
Freeware, batch processing, parallel processing, portable.

Make a new preset fro ffmpeg with arguments below and I hope it will work:
-i "<SourceFileName>" -y -vcodec copy -acodec copy "<OutputPath><OutputFileName>.mov"

I really wish I could understand that Priit (and Crafty Clown) but its just far too complex for me to even try and get my stoopid head around.

I need an application all packaged up in an easy to understand GUI.

Load a file here > Set some settings there> Push GO - big Green button> Pops out here!

Kind of like Clip Wrap.

Actually...exactly like Clipwrap

Hi Shooter,

I try to explain it step by step.

1. Download AnotherGUI and extract the zip file.
2. Download ffmpeg.7z and unzip it.
3. Launch AnotherGUI.exe
4. When AnotherGUI asks for ffmpeg.exe location show it where you unziped in step2. The ffmpeg.exe is inside "bin" folder.
5. Download a Copy to MOV preset.
6. Pres "Edit" button on AnotherGUI. New window opens. Drag and drop the preset file on this new window or import via "Import" button.
7. Choose the preset "Copy codecs into QuickTime MOV container".
8. Now Drag and Drop all your source files or folders to the AnotherGUI window.
9. Press "Go"

Next time start from step 7.

Hope it helps.
If it doesn't work please let me know.
I will try to help.

Priit

PS. As ffmpeg have changed it's syntacs most presets will report an error.
All bitrate arguments should be changed from "-b" to "-b:v".
I will correct the presets soon. The Copy presets should work without changes.

Hey Priit

Step 1. AnotherGUI.zip file is giving me an error message in WINZIP

"Cannot open file: it does not appear to be avalid archive"

I have tried downloading it a few times.

No problem with other steps so far..
