wow, i liked it a lot. that m2 adapter looks very film like too. the cinematography was right on point as well man. good job.

did you write this as well? 25 locations, looks like a lot of night shots too...what is the budget on this feature?

Fine work there, very inspirational...

And there's me thinking you'd shot it on an HVX with an adapter while you used film all along ;-)

Just wrapped production tonight! I have been only the DP and not the director nor producer, so I can't say what the budget was. However, we did have 3 weeks of night shoots, and lighting was often a challenge. The lenses were Nikons, shooting wide open at f1.8 at all times.

Jed was pleased to hear that you found the BTS clips, Timur.

I was told tha the HVX wasn't very good in low light situations(dont have one yet), but you shot in just about the darkest situations possible, so this wonderful project leads me to believe otherwise, am I correct?

aside from that, the shots were all well executed. The DOF was always perfect, with changing the focal point of the shots and everything, not to mention every shot was well thought out. nice job, how can I see this in Ohio when it's done?

The hvx is as good in low light as ANY system is in low light. Film kinda looks crappy when you dont expose it correctly either. David used alot of lighting gear to make sure thoes dark scenes were lit in a "dark" way. its quite a feat let me tell you. He did a great job.

Could you be more specific with the lenses. Actually I'm planning on buying one, could you share the model number and the type of lenses you used because it looks phenominal.

"Low light" scenes are anything but. The illusion of low light is created through heavy shadows. i.e.

We did have a 5k, but rarely enough power to juice it! The primary package was three 2ks, two 650s, one 750, and a couple small par cans. Zero c-stands. The producer did treat me with two 1200w HMIs for about two weeks, which were sorely missed when they had to go back.

note: I've updated the highlight reel with more footage from the shoot.

the new footage looks great. the story looks incredibly complex from the range of settings you've shown. could you give us an idea of what it's about?

The plot is more than just a little complex, so I'll just steal the synopsis off the production company's website:

The film is a psychological thriller set in the present-day Midwest, which follows a troubled children author, Jude, still heavily affected by the suicide of his young wife. Overcome with hopelessness, he struggles to accept his loss, as he becomes a victim of small town corruption.

I really enjoyed the reel, David. Hopefully you guys will submit to SXSW or somewhere I'll be able to catch it.

amazing job!!! everything was excellent, lighting, composition, etc. there were a few places where it was a little soft, but other than that, well done
