FS7: Clip management (when premiere keeps refreshing clip list). Kickstarter project?

Growing file size, a few day's shooting and half a terrabyte media.
Adobe premiere has a problem with showing clips. In the media browser it sometimes keeps refreshing the images, this makes it rather impractical. On the Adobe blog this problem is well known but never solved.
Other content management systems like Sony catalyst browse, and catalyst prepare only copy files and prelude is just not good enough. I like to be able to replace files to other maps. (adobe premiere seems to like small maps).

I don't use explorer, because I don't know which files are connected and which not, besides that, explorer doesn't show pictogrammes.

A clip management system like the ebook manager calibre would be so nice. Copy, replace, rate and comment files. Or just a system like explorer, drag and drop, name and rename.

Anyone has a nice workflow for managing many huge files, or is it time for a kickstarter project to build a nice browser/content management system?

I'll donate 50 dollar or more for a system that
works with all codecs
has drag and drop
user can rate footage
edit comments
delete files (easy delete)
name/rename folders

anyone can think of more?

Yes I did, almost good, but rating, drag and drop and deleting files is not possible or difficult (deleting files two or three steps to do).

That hasn't really been my experience... it does have drag and drop... and deleting is one click in my using it.

As for rating or commenting - it does have shot marks built in, and simple "OKAY" "NG" "KEEP" "None" rating flags. It also supports a description field for writing comments about clips. You can additionally add titles to the clips (that can be different from the filename) and can change the index picture. Furthermore, the software has a search feature, so you can get a list of clips that contain specific keywords. You might want to give it a second look.

Sorry, I keep mixing catalyst browse and content browser.

Catalyst browse is OK, catalyst prepare also, but they lack some of the features sony content browser has.

Content browser only recognizes sony xavc files and no gopro, lumix, dji-3 footage.
And catalyst browse and catalyst prepare lack some of the features like (easy) deleting, drag and drop. So some sort of a sony hybrid would be nice.

I fear there may not be anyone who will take up making such software. Essentially, every codec you support is a whole lot of additional coding. Manufacturers have incentive to provide software that facilitates using their cameras, but little to none for codecs they don't use. Furthermore, there may be a number of roadblocks in licensing. The creators/owners of different codecs may require license fees to permit you to legally support their codec in your software. Another issue is that not all codecs and files support the same metadata, so your interface has to take that into account. Add to all of this that when you bring your product to market you have to share market space with all the other existing programs, many of which are free, or bundled with other software people already have (Prelude with Adobe CC). So you'll only sell to a fraction of that market, and the higher the price tag, the fewer people will have enough reason to buy. And, if you actually do make a better program than say, Adobe Prelude, expect Adobe to just improve Prelude to your standard, at which point your sales drop to nil.

It's just not a terribly lucrative looking business opportunity. A whole lot of work and risk with a low probability of significant profit.

It wouldn't be so bad if premiere pro had this viewing problem. And prelude misses some features too.

So we have to ask Sony to mix Catalyst prepare/browse and content browser.

After playing and testing catalyst prepare I am starting to like it. Some actions require too many mouse-clicks but the interface is nice and clean. I like it more than adobe prelude. It has a problem importing (raw) gopro footage. Footage from lumix camera's is imported easy. Footage from my late DJI 3 Phantom is not always visible. (Can see it with explorer but not with catalyst prepare) so there are a few issues to be solved. Found out that copying gopro and DJI the files to a new folder is the solution for this problem.

It seems that the content and naming of the maps is important, after I removed some previous xml files (from adobe prelude) all worked fine.

Catalyst prepare covers 85%, hopefully the other 15% will be part of the update.
