Clip Duration Problem

When recording long scenes like ceremonies or speeches my HMC-151 misses around a second every 26mins and creates another clip. So far I've always had a back-up cam to fill the gap so I was thinking these were just occasional blips but I'm realising this is consistent now and a real nuisance.

Does anyone else get these, is it an inherent AVCHD problem or just a fault in my camera?

Interesting! The HMC formats the SD cards to FAT32 and so they have a 4gb max. I can easily butt the clips together but there is always a brief gap. The fixes are Mac ones, I'm using Edius so I'm going to try the GV Forum too.

Just thinking - does the HMC really need FAT32 files? I'd like to try formatting an SD card to NTFS but they are bit expensive for experiments and I'm not sure if the HMC would be able to use it. Any ideas?

The reason it uses FAT32 is because that's the best format if you want both Mac and PC compatibility. I believe we have Microsoft to thank for locking up NTFS as a proprietary format... :(

There are lots and lots of threads on this... you haven't lost any data, but if you try to stitch the files the wrong way it will appear to have a gap. A lot of NLE's that understand AVCHD should process this correctly, but if yours doesn't there are a number of tricks including a few lines of code on the Windows command prompt that merge the files. Look around, I think it's been pinned.

Try using the AVCHD restorer tool

Try using the AVCHD restorer tool

I haven't had the opportunity to try this, but I did a long ceremony the other day and had the same problem. Adobe CS4 did not seem them together well and I had a noticeable drop out. The movie has been delivered, so nothing to do about now.

I did read last night on the manual for AVCHD restorer tool, that it mentioned that it could seam gaps created by the camera. Run the restorer on your files and see what it does and let us know.
