Hah, I was in the area on Saturday. Actually I was at Arden Mall visiting a friend. This was shot around Sac area right? Well, I couldn't really watch this smoothly. Its extremely choppy on my 64meg laptop. It was overcast that day right? From what I see so far, the shots looks nice. It has a very clean look to it. Your actors have great faces. You might want to work on your audio abit. I can clearly hear people talking in the background. I mean I can actually hear what their saying. I just have to wait to watch this on my main computer.

The chick is hot, the shots are nicely framed and they look pretty crisp. The only flaws are like BLUESPIDER said with the audio, and also the opening jib-arm shot is a bit wobbily, maybe some good ol' shake corrector filter or something can fix that up a bit.

I am a horrible critique person, so I'll leave it to those who know how to step up to that plate, But I like the song. :)

Is that your homemade jib? I give you props bro. It's looking more like a movie. The girl is cute. hmm..I could cast her in my feature this summer. Looks good so far. If you don't have a level bubble use a half empty water bottle to check the balance of your jib. I can hear the audio cuts from you guys.. just blend and smooth it out.. I would like to see more.

..looks good so far. cant really watch it here cause the bitrate is too high for this machine. you need to compress at lower bitrates for web distribution. i couldnt play the last file you uploaded till i took it to the studio machine either.

I agree with the audio and wobbly. Nice shot setups, the cutting is a little jagged, but it works. I'd rather see more footage than one at such a high bitrate. Good work!

Looks pretty good. I'd cut the first 3 seconds of the jib shot, that'd get rid of the wobble part and should still work. There was something about the cuts that didn't feel natural. You can probably get rid of a cut to tidy it up some, and wait a little longer before cutting in some places. If you added .5 secs to a few of those cuts it'd probably feel much better, it was like you were cutting before the action as they say instead on the action.

I know the jib was shaky damnit lol. How do I correct that in Vegas? Shoulda turned on OIS. Anyway I think the cuts are pretty good... audio maybe a little choppy but as far as the conversasion I felt like it carried on naturally.... hmmm....

HEY GUYS DO ME A FAVOR IF YOU WATCH IT, LEAVE ME SOME FEEDBACK THANKS!

Were those actors supposed to have a nervous smile like that? Was that intentional as part of the scene? It looks as though they are very nervous.

I liked the video quality. Nice work and that girl is easy on the eyes. The opening shot is a tad shakey :(

She a working actor? you can tell she has talent for it.

Here's my thought. the intro shot is great but I think it cuts into the TWO SHOT a bit too fast from the ESTABLISHING.
that's just what i think.

You can't correct in Vegas, well, unless you want to manually zoom in and then frame by frame try and line things up which would be a nightmare. You need a progam like After Effects to do it for you. But, if you just cut the wobble out (the first 3 seconds or so) and hold the shot a longer that'd probably work as well.

I just watched it again and although the cuts may work, they can be a lot better. The conversation caried on naturally but the cuts didn't. The good news is you can fix it real easily. For example, here's what I saw that might make it more natural...take em or leave em as they're only suggestions. Hold the shot of "What are you doing on Friday" a tad longer, wait to cut to her on "Mmm". Hold a few extra frames after he says "3:00". Hold the shot of when she says "ok" a little longer (15 frames or so) and then cut to the next shot as her head starts to look down and bite her lip. Play with it until it's all smooth and natural. Again if it was me I'd probably drop a cut or two to balance it all out, but it also depends on your style and the film's tempo.

The shots look good, the girl is cute, they both play shy real well and it invokes many memories of being in that situation. As for them being nervous, whether that was acting or not it was very realistic, which I liked.

Allen thanks man, I'll try it both ways never hurts to just see... I like the idea for the crane shot, but then again I think next saturday I'll just reshoot it with OIS on. As far as the film look is concerned how close do you think I got?

I think you got pretty close, it looks very good in that regard. Are you planning on letterboxing this and/or CCing any? That might help seal the deal, but composition wise it works and the lighting is very natural and nice.

Also, be careful with OIS when you start and stop your jib pans. If you're wanting to start stationary, like you did in this curent version, you may get jumpiness as the OIS kicks in and tries to compensate before giving up when the pan starts. If you're reshooting it, you may want to do a version w/ and w/o OIS, and w/ and w/o starting the shot stationary as opposed to already being in motion.

Not a bad start avautar; here is my subjective take:

I agree, the crane/jib shot is distracting with the wobble; I would SPLIT the event and find that fine line between wobble and acceptable; incidentally I think a better angle would have helped, possible from the right of door looking down the walkway to the left and this would better serve the jump to the first reverse of couple (subjective).

I like your use of reverses during the conversationand the subtle split edit.

The talent is below average; although the girl (yes, she is smokin) seems capable of playing the part. The dialog seems off "So....... what are you doing?" and "So....... you wanna get together......" just seems unnatural.

I'd drop the levels (blacks) just a tad for that crush look; oh wait, thats my favorite look, not yours.

Anyway; not a bad start, but needs some work; no doubt as the production goes on it will just get better. Keep us in the loop!

Loved your reflector rig, man, what is it?

You have a style. It really looks a lot from prime time TV comedies and commercial films. Just like the footage you shot of yourself. It's very well done. For that look I think you counted with help from your good looking actors and the efficient make-up (I'm not a fan of the girl's make-up, but the male characters are looking just like TV stars - I'll hang to the complimentary part of the comment for now...). I'm not very into that, but I can say it's very nicely made.

Thanks guys I really need all the info I can get, were going to put this film into a competition so... yeah... Taubkin, likin the reflector rig huh:)? LOL It's actually one of those display units that colapses down into basically nothing, I just use tape to put a bunch of fomacore on it and walla professional lookin rig lol. I think I'm gonna get some velcro for ease and repeated use reasons. As for the crane, I think I am going to add some smoother moving hardware to it... I am learning every possible way not to make a crane lol, so when I get it smooth I'll make some plans you guys can copy. It's going to work really well and you can make it in a few hours for like 30-50 bucks. I'm gonna try crushin the blacks to see what it looks like john, I shot with the PED from -5 to -7 so I could play with that!

Oh yeah sorry Allen, I would have loved to have it 16:9, but I don't think I'm going to bother with it until I get the anamorphic adapter. It just doesn't make sense to shoot at something where your going to lose resolution, especially on the dvx with the lower resolution it already delivers. Tho it is more cinematic, just gonna have to bite the bullet on this one.
