Click Sound in New HVX 200 when power is off

I just purchased a new HVX200 yesterday. I am all excited to use my new camera, but I am nervous about a sound that I hear when the camera is off.

If I tip the nose of the camera down a bit, then tip the nose up a bit, I hear something that sounds like it is sliding inside the camera. Almost like a servo that is not engaged. I do not hear the sound when the camera is on only when it is off. It sounds sort of like a click but it isn't a click. it is a sound you hear like something plastic is slidingback and forth as I tip it up and down.

Has anyone else had this experience. Is this just my camera, or do others have the same sound.

Thanks for the help

Depending on who you ask, that sound is caused by either one of two things:

1) A small goblin that lives inside of the camera's forward section. When you rattle the camera, the goblin becomes angry, and starts jumping around. Turning on the camera electrocutes the goblin, and causes him to pass out.

2) The camera's optical image stabilizer (OIS). The OIS makes that noise when the camera is off, and when power is applied to the camera, the noise goes away. This is normal, and nothing to worry about. See your user manual.

Personally, I think you should disassemble the camera, and kill the goblin. I never have any faith in the info found in user manuals...

LOL!

That's one of the best 'theories' yet!

I killed the goblin and feel so much better. Of course, when I finished putting my HVX back together I had one screw left over and don't know where it goes.

Thanks everyone for the notes!!! They were all very comforting !!! I feel much better now. As I now google "HVX200 click noise" - I am seeing many more people online that have reported the trouble as well. For as many reviews as I read on the camera no one mentioned this issue. What I don't get is how something this obvious could have made it through a QA process.

Thanks again for the help !!

I had about a dozen screws left over after modding my PS2 years back, and had about the same after modding my XBox as well. Threw em in a cup, and after modding tons of PS2's and Xboxs for friends over the years, that cup runneth over!

Whyd they put so many screws in them if they didnt need to?! ALl those systems still work perfectly too!
