SHORT: CLICK CLICK SCI-FI shot on GH4

Hi everyone,

I thought I'd share a short film I created by myself.

I wanted to see if I could come up with a idea, shoot it, edit and finish everything in post productions in under 12 hours. I like the idea of just taking out my GH4 and seeing if I could create something without loads of gear.
So it was just me a GH4, a tripod and a portable jib that I don't think I actually used in the end.

Total time was around 10 hours although I had to split that time over a few days due to work.

Would love to know your thoughts,

Peter

nice. simple. clear. elegant.

impressive especially with FX/3D, in that time span

i assume it was you acting in the parts with just the one guy? how did you shoot yourself and maintain proper focus? that always drove me nuts when trying to do that with a 5D (i realize they have differently sized sensors but still...).

Ha ha, they'd hate mine that's for sure. I'd been running in them for half an hour.

I was originally going to have a ruck sack on, the idea was I'd evaporate and the rucksack would drop to the floor. Unfortunately I was also using the rucksack for all my gear and kept taking it off for the shots. I was about half way through shooting when I realised this and didn't have time to re-shoot wearing the rucksack so just went with the trainer idea instead.
My Brother watched it and said "How comes the last persons shoes weren't left?" My only explanation is that when you're evaporated by a plasma ray they only things that are left are the things that were in contact with the ground and only if they're made of rubber.

Many thanks for your input, I hope you enjoyed the film?

All the best in your future work,

Peter

I enjoyed it even without respect to how quickly you did it. All the more impressive given your time constraint.

I had small quibbles with a couple shots, most prominently the shaky ending "jib" move, but it's completely understandable given the scope of the project. The effects were fantastic. Really nice work.

I enjoyed it too. I thought it was pretty solid in most areas. Keep up the good work.

Thank you both for your kind words.

One thing I was really surprised with was how well the GH4 held up to colour correction. I'd heard it was really bad but there were some shots where the sky was pretty much blown out and I managed to bring back some of the clouds.

Totally agree with the jib shot. I had planned to shoot in 4K and then just stablize all the shots but I realised in post that I'd shot it all at 1080 so was a bit limited. I did stabilize the preceding shot where the guys turn up. I was going to stabilize the last shot but thought After Effects wouldn't handle it too well so just left it due to the time constraint I'd set myself.
I also wish I'd fixed the sound at the end now as that's the only place that I didn't re-dub.

Thanks again for the brilliant feedback.

Peter

Thanks Martay, will definitely take more time next time :)

In case any one is interested here is the behind the scenes video

Thanks again,
