And this is the wrong solution. I don't want my pictures to be flattened by long focal lens.
Iwant wider shots (35mm-50mm) to have shallow DOF. This is an extreme, yet wonderful situation (used in all high budget commercials), that needs f/1:4 or faster lenses and 35mm sensors. A full body person can be isolated from his near background.

Pictures are not flattened by the focal length, perspective does that, and that is ONLY the function of distance...

If we keep shooting distances the same, the picture angle the same and use different size sensors (or film), we must use longer focal lengths with bigger sensors. With longer focal length we get less DOF. Simple.

Extreme shallow DOF effets can not be had with digital, try 8x10 film... or IMAX.

35mm format has something for it, thought; the fastest lenses, and that overcomes some theoretical limitations. If we had f1.4 lenses for 8x10", boy...

Whew I love this I am snapping up 20 and 30D's for next to nothing!! and for what 6.5 10mp and 3" (live preview) YAWN....I love the future now.
