Cleaning Up Sound

Can anyone post a simple tutorial for making audio in your sequence crisper? I would like the voice of the actors to be thick and cut out any ambient sound, anyone know any good tutorials for something like that? I have STP.

If this question is too simple or asked too many times, please ignore this post, we are at differnt levels on here.

Well, it's a very simple question for a very complex topic. It comes down to careful use of EQ and compression on dialog, along with a tedious editing process that adds in the right ambient layers and foley effects and gets the music edited correctly, followed by a mixing process that brings it all together.

It's a process that, generally, requires some one who knows how to do it right. And on the biggest-budget productions, there are teams of people who take care of each different piece of the puzzle. There's an ADR facility, a re-recording engineer, a facility that records and mixes the score, a dialog editor, a foley artist, foley engineer and foley editor, and a mixing engineer that finishes off the project.

If you go for the DIY approach, do some reading on what EQ and compression do. Use them carefully, and use your wild tracks /room tone to smooth out the ambient background.

Great advice. Also, check out the Reduce Noise tool in STP. You can find tutorials online for how to use it.
