Cleaning the lens

Hi,

I was wondering if any of you can give me tips on keeping my lens clean and free from dust on my Panasonic DVX-100 (original).

I know to clean it effectively that I need to unscrew the lens hood but does that thin black plate get removed too? If so how do I do it?

Thanks for any help in advance!

Chris

You can clean it quite effectively with a little compressed air and then a microfiber lens cloth. I don't think there is any reason to remove anything but the lens hood.

Do you have a UV Filter? Just need to clean the lens very well once, snap on the filter and then just clean the filter when needed. Really helps to protect your lens. Better to buy a new $50 filter than get that lens replaced.

Oh yea if you really want to removed the black plate you use a very small philips head screwdriver for the two screws that hold it together.

I actually prefer Rosco lense paper, available at filmtools.com. I like it better than microfiber cloth because each time you're starting with a fresh clean piece. Also, buy a bottle of Pancro lense cleaner from filmtools, I've found it to be the best. Also, buy yourself a camel hair brush for dusting off the lense. I agree with the UV filter statement, get a B+W super multi coat UV filter, they're the best. My process is to dust of the lense with the brush, then fold up a piece of lense tissue a couple times, spray the tissue with the pancro cleaner (don't spray it directly on the lense), and then I give the lense a good breathing on, then wipe in a circular motion from the center out very lightly.

This is good to know. I think I'll just use a simple lens cleaning cloth and put on a UV filter as I don't think I have one.

Hi,

I do not really know if I have one. All I see is that thin black plate and behind the lens so I guess not. I purchased this used off of eBay and not really sure what I have.

If I put on a filter would it screw on over the plate or does it go behind? Dumb question I know but if you've never done this...

yes, the filter screws into your threads (72mm) which is over the plate.
