i have anti-static cleaning wipes that is ment for electronic equipment but it has low alcohol in it. Is this product safe? ???

Re: Cleaning the lens Question

Hmm, well I don't own a DVX but, I'll assume that lense cleaning is universal...

Take a compressed air can, and shoot it at the lense, blowing off all the dust particles and whatnot, then you take a special NON ABRASIVE (hehe) special made lense cleaning cloth.

Cloth is now in your right/left hand, blow hot air onto the lense, so it fogs, then rub with cloth.

Have fun

Re: Cleaning the lens Question

I like the part about using compressed air and maybe using your breath to deposit a slight amount of moisture on the lens surface, but 'rub' may be a poor choice of words here. I think 'gently wipe in a circular motion' would be better.
Also, when using the air blow it across the lens not directly at it. Most, if not all, optical coatings are fragile.

Bad idea, the fibers are not meant for glass lense's.

Re: Cleaning the lens Question

Something nobody has mentioned is to get a UV filter. Whenever I get any camera or lens the first thing I do is put on a UV filter that never leaves the lens unless it needs to be replaced. I new filter is much cheaper than fixing a lens.
When cleaning lens first try it with air, either a manual "puffer", or canned. If that does not work I use a good quality lens pen, it has a carbon tip on one end, and a brush on the other. It will clear spots and smudges really well.

Re: Cleaning the lens Question

You're right about that UV filter. My dealer wouldn't let me leave without one.

Re: Cleaning the lens Question

Note: UV filter on a FILM camera prevents UV from lowering image contrast. On a digital camera the CCD does NOT respond to invisible light the same way as film. CCDs have image contrast reduced by INFRARED! So where did I find that IR filter?!?

Re: Cleaning the lens Question

The UV filter in this case is meant to prevent the lens itself from getting dirty or damaged, not to affect contrast...

Re: Cleaning the lens Question

best thing for cleaning a lens is a piece of chamois leather-
`shammy leather` or wash leather, breathe on lens and then gently wipe....it works well and there are no fibres !

Re: Cleaning the lens Question

What brand makes the best UV filters? Is there any particular model that's the best? What's the price on UV filters?

Thanks

Re: Cleaning the lens Question

About the canned air - what do you do about the fact that you're not supposed to carry pressurized cans on airlines? That is, you get down to That south pacific island local, need to shoot the dust off the lens to clean and you're not gonna have it because they will not let you take this stuff most times?
