Cleaning the DVX100B heads

I was following instructions on the forum to clean the heads on my DVX100B, (instructions for the 100A) but found that the recording head has a cover over it...any suggestions on how to clean beyond the dry tape or expensive service charges. Thanks!

I dont think you will get any response from anyone . I asked the same question your asking twice and no one responded. I even sent two private messages to barry and he never responded either. I guess you and I are the only DVX100B owners on this site. I can tell you the easy way to get to heads by removing the screw that holds the hinge to the tape door and opening the tape door all the way this gives you access to all the tape mechanism but like you said the drum is protected by a cover in front of it. By a Sony. I also a PD170 which is very easy to get to the recording heads for cleaning also a better camera.

Hey, I also have dvx 102b.
Tape cleaning. I usually just use a tape cleaner.
anyway, the tape mechanism is build to last.

Thing to advise.
1. always try to keep to one brand of tape.
2. try to use brand new tape. Avoid using recycle tape.

I also use a 100B, but I refuse to clean it. Only on the grounds that I am morally apposed to it, being a hippy from the NW that is. If the Panny wants to be dirty, then let it be, let it be.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Just kidding. Did not realize cleaning the heads would be a pain. Although FWIW I am against cleaning tapes. I could be all wrong, but I was tought to never use those things on any tape based gear because they are really abrasive and "quick and dirty" at best. Like using sand paper to clean your hands, yeah it gets the dirt off but your hands won't last for too long. Wonderful analogy I know. Hand cleaning is the way to go, but aparently there is no established method for the 100B.
