Clean settings for the HPX370

sI always see the BBC settings with + for the Master Ped and I'm not a fan. Mine live around -8 or so. Raising that can bring noise.

They have the DRS on +3, that can bring noise.

They have the Chroma down, not a fan.

The V Detail Freq should be Thick for Progressive shooting I read.

Well, I wouldn't expect the 370 to be completely free of noise even at -3db, but I do use a modified BBC setting that works for me just fine... I just need to get to the camera tomorrow to see what they are, because I forgot :cheesy:

The biggest problem with the 370 isn't in the settings but exposure and color balance, if the subject isn't properly lit (25IRE or less on waveform) and the WB isn't set spot on, you'll be in noise city. Under controlled lighting I find there to be plenty of headroom for changing the settings around.

KNEE: LOW
MATRIX: NORM1
SKIN TONE DTL : OFF
V DETAIL FREQ : THIN

I also use an alternate scene file with -5 master ped and different color settings.

Master pedestal is though of as a potential source of noise, but raising it merely shows the noise floor that would otherwise be crushed at low amounts, like -10. I've tried shooting with master ped at some crazy value like +60 and bringing it back down in post basically looks just as good as if it were at 0. Personally I'd prefer to crush the blacks in post if I wanted to.

Color settings don't seem to have much effect on noise, as most of it is luma. DRS only works in interlaced modes and 720p, so I don't get to use it often.
 
Very helpful info. Thanks for posting. Im going to try out some of these settings soon. I do these nightly promo teases with talent and very minimal lighting and your right it's noise city. That's a bummer.
