Hello everyone!
I purchased a head cleaning tape the last time I ordered a shipment of items from my regular place (the wonderful EVS), just in case I ever needed it.
I've logged some 300 hours on my DVX100a and have never ran into any problems recording with regards to video dropouts. Only once have I ever ran into the "Red Circle w/ X" problem, but it lasted for only a few seconds and never again gave me a problem. I routinely record using LP with absolutely no problems (and I feel confident in recording important shoots with my DVX in LP mode, but only when stationary on a tripod); I've done at least 10 in this fashion in the last two weeks, alternating sometimes back to SP with other tapes (again with no issue). All in all I'm pretty darned happy with everything.
I've noticed that logging tapes onto my computer into Premiere Pro 1.5, there are sometimes wierd audio glitches. They were few and far between, and when they came about it lasted for not more than 1/10 of a second. I made a post about it a while back but never found a solution. I just worked around it and did what I could. I'm about to start logging some more tapes and, in an attempt to prevent the audio glitch problem, was wondering if I should run the head cleaning tape through the camera for 5 seconds before starting anything. Mind that I realize I should utilize a different deck for recording to the NLE, I don't really have any other method at this moment.
The only concerns I have are as follows:
1.) Might this be a solution to the problem?
2.) Will using the cleaning tape risk damaging the heads (I can't imagine it would seeing how technicians and the manual itself suggest its use in the even that the heads need to be cleaned)?
3.) If this does work, does it risk diminishing the integrity of the heads? That is to say, if I use the head cleaning tape, will that open the "floodgates" to require regular head cleanings every X number of hours? More importantly, could using the head cleaning tape potentially make the LP recording mode less reliable? As I said, I use it frequently with absolutely no problem (I just have to record past 1hr05min so that the camera knows the information is recorded in LP vs. SP), and actually rely on it for certain recordings. Many people claim that the LP mode is really unreliable and that it always gives people playback problems. I feel as though I'm just "lucky" and get no issues with it, and I'm afraid of doing anything to the camera that might prevent the LP mode from working reliably.
Thank you all for your help! I understand some of this information is located elsewhere, but I felt is though I had specific inquiries that weren't avaliable in the other threads.
