GH2 Class 10 Panasonic Gold 32gig card too slow for 720 p60????

So I keep having an error message when I try to shoot 720p60 on my class 10 gold series...22mbits Panasonic 32 gig -238$ memory card. My Gh2 will record for about 1 minute sometimes maybe less sometime 4 minutes sometime 30 seconds and I get an error message telling me the video was canceled because of the cards write speed. I reformatted the card and still it does this....Is my camera broken? or Is it the two hundred and thirty eight dollar Panasonic Memory card?.....I am really freaking out and I haven't seen any posts about anyone else having this issue. I have only used official Panasonic batteries and glass . I don't understand how a card that advertises 22MB/s "Full HD video' is too slow for 720p60....any thoughts? :Drogar-Thinking(DBG

Not saying this is the problem, but did you buy the card from a reputable retailer? Lots of counterfeit cards floating around which will cause problems like you're describing. In many cases they're putting false labels on slower/cheaper cards.

Yes I bought it and the camera from ADORAMA. It came in the correct packing with all the warranty info. I'm starting to think its the camera and not the card . I need to get another class 10 card and test it too.
I wish I knew a way to check the cards speed is there a software program that will do that?

... I reformatted the card ...

Just to clarify: Did you reformat the card in the GH2 immediately before recording 720p60?

The reason I ask is because reformatting an SD in a computer (instead of in camera) can cause a camera to have problems.

If reformatting the SD card in a computer was not the cause of your issue, and before going to the expense of buying another card, if possible test against any Class 4 or higher SDHC card (reformatted in-camera) you might be able to borrow.

According to Panasonic's GH2 user manual, an SDHC card rated "... Class 4 or higher when recording motion pictures in AVCHD ..."

If you find you can record 720p60 (and 1080p24 "24H" mode @ 24 megabits/sec) successfully on other cards, but not using the 32GB Panasonic Class 10 card you bought (formatted in-camera), then the latter card is likely defective. Having done those tests, I'm pretty sure Adorama will happily replace the defective card or refund your money. But do the comparison tests first if possible.

Or, if you find that your GH2 can't record 720p60 on _any_ SDHC cards (test several), then yes, unfortunately your GH2 might have a problem. Again, if you've tested it carefully I'm sure Adorama will give you a refund or replacement.

Let us know what you find out.

Peter,
I did the reformat inside the camera. What's weird is that I haven't had any issue with the card in 24p 1080 i have rolled 33min in that mode continuous and it's fine. Its just SH mode that I have this problem and it varies from being seconds of video to letting me record for minutes, regardless of free space on the card. The tricky part is getting a class 4 or higher card from someone. Preferably a class 10, ill have to hit up Facebook and see who is willing to loan me one.

Yep its the card I think

Well I went down to Best Buy, because I simply dont have time to go anywhere else and bought a 4gig class 6 extreme card rated as 133x 20mbs. Was able to shoot 7 minutes or so no errors in 720p60 must be a faulty or just down right crappy card. I also shot 15 minutes in 1920x1080i 29.97 ....by mistake. So I am pretty sure its the card.

Just to chime in here, I have both the 32 gig panasonic gold and the much cheaper class 10 transcend 32 gig and an ultra fast card slot & usb 3.0 on my laptop and the panasonic maxs out at about 17 to 18 megs a second while the transcend is about 22 megs a second sustained transfer rate.

Both of those should be more than enough for the gh2s low 24mbit max bitrate but the transcend cards are better, faster, and cheaper, breaking the 'pick two' out of those three paradigm.

I just had a transcend 64gb card I shot in my AF-100 become unreadable, so I wouldn't necessarily call them "better".

I had the same thing happen with my 16 gig class 10 Panasonic Gold card. It had been formatted in the camera and I was shooting 720 60p in ETC. Only happened once so far. Mine came direct from Panasonic. I formatted the card several times after it happened and it hasn't occurred since (but I keep my fingers crossed!)

Odd. ALL the card companies have some bad duds off the factory line now and again that make it past quality control (a very tired person looking at a repetitive green light). I have about 5 transcend 32 cards and have never had an error or prob and formatted them about 1000 times.

Sandisk are hands down the best cards for performance and reliability. I know there's a lot of fakes, but the real ones really are the shizzle dizzle yo!

Plus, paying well over the odds for a massive 32Gb cutting edge card is unnecessary for a GH camera, as the AVCHD codec allows 2 hours of hacked recording on a fairly humble 16Gb card.

LOL...Well I know it was stupid now.... but you know what I was just so excited about the camera and I just wanted to buy "the best" -

Today I discovered a SMOKING deal on Amazon for the new Sandisk Extreme Pro 45mb/s 32GB card for 150 bucks. B&H has it for $219. So I snatched it up. Now after ADORAMA sends me a replacement 32gb Panasonic card new in its packaging. I just need to sell it on Craigs list or something for 150 or so and I will break fairly even and have a much better card.

I've compared a Sandisk 32GB Extreme Pro 45MB/s SD card to two Sandisk 16GB Extreme 30MB/s cards. In no case have I found the 32GB card to read or write data faster than the 16GB cards on my equipment. However, the 32GB card seems to produce more "write-speed limitation" errors than the 16GB cards. With the archaic FAT32 file system used on these cards, I suspect it may on occasion take slightly longer to randomly access memory on the 32GB cards than on the 16GB cards.

......So is it better than the Panasonic 22mb/s card? Or am i needlessly spending more money that cant afford to spend. I just want to be able to shoot in 720p60 with out it crashing on me for Pete's sake.

Oh also...When you get the card should put it in the camera and then"format" the card first?

I came across this on another site.

"The first thing you must do when you purchase your SDHC card and SDHC card reader is to format the card to the FAT32 file system otherwise you will not get the rated capacity out of the card. Also, under no circumstance do a defragmentation on the card. All the clusters are equally accessable so there is no need and you will only wear the card out quicker.....remember these cards have a finite life and the more you re-write them the sooner they will wear out. "

Oh and the price just dropped by 10 bucks....as I kick myself...-- ($139.02+ $5.95shipping) on Amazon.

I'm having no luck with my cards. Almost every one I buy has been a fake. I bought a Kingston 32Gb class 10 card and its junk. well its fake really. I was looking at the Duracell Class cards which claim a 200X read speed. If I can find a genuine card soon I'll just buy a Sandisk extrem.

I've taken a hit on every card because when I sell them I list that they are knock off and its the speed which is the problem for me, not the capacity.

I think the only way to know if its real is the price. You just won't get a cheap fast card. So many people even on Amazon have complained of burnt out cards , data drop outs and poor speed which all smack of fake cards.

I specifically asked these guys if they are selling a genuine product and they told me they buy bulk directly from Sandisk.

This seems like a god price.
