now that is high "production value" :)
i just wonder what was the purpose of it? is it a documentation of this re-enactment? was this all set up for this shooting, or was it just an event, regardless to the shoot?

Here in America, some people (particular in the Southeastern states) like to do what is called "Reenactments"; in this case, the CIVIL WAR between the North and South. You know about this right? Basically the South wanted slavery and the North thought it was not cool so the southern states attempted to secede from the "Union" and it brought on a full Civil War. (There were other issues as well; not just the slavery issue; but the idea of the southern states forming their own union separate from the United States.)

It was the last time a war has been fought on American Soil. Anyway, thgere is this huge culture that participates in reenactment battles.

If one was shooting a period peice and needed civil war footage; this would be the place to get it.

Okay, American History 101 is over for today.

Re: Civil War Battle footage DVX100.

thanks john :) .. no seriously.. i know this history.. i was just asking because i felt.. if i was there.. i would try to get closer to the "drama", or at least try to tell a story.. or get some classic war-films-shots.. or on the other hand, to document the real people behind this bit weird sub-culture. it looked like a waste of production value, from the filmmaking perspective, just to document this happening from a distance.
but now when you say that it's kind of a culture, or a hobby.. i think i understand . .
there were some nice lighting situations with the smoke and the sun rays... i would suggest not to use zooms so much and to (absolutely) avoid auto iris.. ;)
