Circular ring style light?

Hi friends,

I saw a circular led light on a behind the scenes video on YouTube. They used it on a music video to light up the subject( singer). What's a quality version to buy of these? And what's the proper name for them.

Thanks ,
Chris

There are several people marketing flo rings like that. I assume they're just standard hardware store bulbs and not something closer to daylight like a biax.

I doubt the ballasts are overdriven in these either so you may not get a ton of output. But for the $$ they're interesting.

Lots of youtube DIYs using ring flo's and circles of bulbs for the super-cheap version.

I started out with those low cost Ardinbir fluorescent ring lights that I got off of Amazon. I bought a couple for a three point system. They're pretty decent for the money and the color isn't bad on them. Your camera will pick up flickering if you're shooting a fast shutter but for a single person interviews they work fine. The major downside is the construction. They're a little on the fragile side so won't stand up to heavy duty use. Never had problems but I handled them pretty carefully. I've since moved on so was thinking of selling mine.

LitePanels used to have two sizes, but the larger Cinema seems discontinued. I prefer the Mini.

There are even more expensive models on the market, but I'd advice renting any ring light before buying. I've used flash rimglights quite a bit for fashion, & they have a look, but it can get gimicky, & I wouldn't use one regularly to key.

One show that used continuous ring lights a lot was Reno 911, especially on the night shots in the movie.
