Cintiq for HD editing

Ban Me Please!
Does anybody think it would make sense to have a 21" Cintiq for editing footage in Final Cut from the upcoming HVX? It's 1600x1200 (isn't that considered HD resolution?)

I would think that I could use it as my main monitor and then preview to my 24" dell. Any ideas why this wouldn't work other than the fact that they are very expensive. I could really use one for doing my 3d residential modeling and design, so I wouldn't be buying it just to have it for editing or because it's cool.

Thanks for the feedback.

Way too expensive just for a monitor, but if you have other 3d uses for it and the money is just burning a hole in your pocket, go for it.

Cintiq's are awesome. I have a smaller Wacom tablet for vector painting in AfterFX and drawing in Photoshop, etc., but can't imagine how I would use it in FCP, to be quite honest with you... (the shortcut keys are much more convenient, imho)

I agree that it's too expensive just to have, but I could really use it for other things and have enough computers and crude around. I have a second Dell coming in, but just can't help but think that the Cintiq would be more functional. I don't really have the desk space to hook up a 18x12 wacom.

The Wacom works great for what I'm doing, but I only have a 6x8 which doesn't do any good for importing sketches.

I have a feeling you're right about the shortcut keys. I haven't really dug into FCP yet, but I have the keyboard and the shuttle pro, but have a feeling that like most other apps, I'll be back to shortcut keys :)

I guess I'll have to buy a bigger desk and just get the 12x18 wacom. :)

Thanks

Please, understand, if I had a business need for a Cintiq, I would own one.

But, that isn't my business focus.

If you have a need for one, then by all means, GET ONE! It makes certain tasks much easier, as you're already aware...

One of the abilities you can and should develop when editing is a fast keyboard shortcut workflow. You really should have one hand on the keyboard when editing with FCP so I really don't think using a cintiq would help, it would probably hinder. It's much better to have two widescreen monitors for the cost.

I think that this making more sense to me. I have two of the Dell 24" right now (well, one's in the mail), but I was just thinking that if I had to up to a 12x18 wacom that I may as well step up to the Cintiq since I could use it for my architectural stuff, but from an editing standpoint I have to rely on all of you since I've yet to really use my FCP system that I've had for almost a year. :( I'm working on it. Thanks for the feedback.
