Cinevate's MP.2 35mm adapter is here!

Well Aram, I can take credit only for the concept and direction. It always amazes me how much work a 30 second piece can be, and how important teamwork is in this industry. Other than Bryan, all of these folks are from Thunder Bay, and four of them are Cinevate staffers. Piotre (shot/directed/edited the award-winning short "Undertow") is helping us out at NAB and indeed drove the cube van 3200km to get our presence to Las Vegas.

I'll pass along your comments to the crew :-)

We're pretty much on target with our projected cost. 2750 :-) There is only one version targeted squarely at the professional market and B4 chassis capable of true 1920x1080 (and higher) native pixel resolution. Our expectation is that these folks would be using both full format 35mm (like the Zeiss ZF mounts we sell) as well as dedicated cine lenses. Further, there are some very interesting lens options about to become available for our system..announced at NAB on Monday. Because our relay zooms to full format or cine formats, we can guarantee maximum field of view and accurate focal length performance with pretty much any 35, S35, or SLR format glass.

The light efficiency of the system is turning out to much better than expected on the HPX500 where even inside shooting with moderate light is requiring ND1 or 2 with the relay at f4. For use outside at sunset, ND3 was required along with f8 on the relay's aperture. Having the luxury of using our own optics to relay images to the camera's imaging block is providing simply stunning results so far. We've got a shoot at 5:30am here in Las Vegas that will introduce our relay footage to the world :-) Should be posted up in a day or two.

It's Tuesday here Down Under (Monday night I guess in Vegas). What's the big Zeiss announcement?

Peter

If all goes as planned, we'll have it at NAB on our HPX500 coupled with the Zeiss world debut item(s) that we're not allowed to talk about until NAB monday. One thing that we haven't mentioned anywhere until now is that the B4 adapter you'll see at NAB is nearly 1 inch shorter than the one in our video at Cinevate :-) We've been busy.

Focusing on that rig will be handled by another world debut product from Cinevate that we've been very, very quiet about...and it's not our Durus follow focus.

7 compact primes based on the ZF optics...but in a very nice cine lens form factor with PL mounts. All of the lenses are matched with respect to length and width, and none physically breath. They are all geared with .8 pitch gears which match perfectly with our Durus follow focus.

The reason we're so excited about them is that they are based on the ZF optics and therefore project a full SLR image frame. Some of you may recall that our B4 relay supports cine and full SLR format with no crop factor. This means that anyone using our B4 relay will see about a 40% increase in usable field of view over a comparable relay that does not zoom to different formats as ours does :-)

Sounds juicy Dennis. Any pricing yet?

Just while you are there, do you know of any issues using Zeiss Contax lenses with the Brevis MP.2? Just considering buying one. There shouldn't be any cropping but maybe vignetting? I'm hoping not because the C/Y Zeiss lenses should be very similar to the Zeiss ZF's.

Please keep posting any interesting bits from Vegas.

Cheers,
Peter
