Cinevate handgrips

I sold my cavision handgrips because the rosettes slips easy and how they block the rails don't inspire me confidence with adapter rigs. For my budget the cinevate proteus handgrips would be the better option (RB moose bars are a little bit expensive for me and blue handles are too much)
Anyone has tried the proteus handgrips? I'm interested to know how strongs are and if they are tooless or I need anything to tigh this correctly for adapter use.
advices are welcome

I haven't used them or seen them, but I'm sure Dennis and the crew at Cinevate built the strongest handgrips possible.. I'd send them an email and check if you need any tools to set it up. Or maybe Dennis will reply to this thread?

They are toolless, however when using the grips for a heavier rig you definitely will want to tighten them with the key provided. The grips are annodized aluminum, zero plastic, and they're tough. They're a lifetime part.

We will be applying what we've learned about the Cinevate follow focus to the grip mounts so if you've purchased the grips, you can expect a fully toolless (with crazy grip) retrograde friendly part. As always, it will be available on a cost recovery basis to existing grip users.

This is what I'm talking about :-)

So you can expect to able to replicate this feat with one handle!

Thanks Dennis
I'm definetly interested in this new feature. When the handgrips with crazy grips will be available? how much they cost? I'm in Spain. so and i'm not interested in to order two shipments, one for the actual handgrips and another for the crazy grip (very expensive to me).

Dennis,

With the crazy grip, what kind of weight do you think it'll support? Could I use it with a RED? Will they come in 19mm? Extensions?

There's definitely a void for low cost, high strength hand grips that don't slip.

Hey Dennis, I'm about this || close to ordering the handgrips, but one of my concerns is the fact that i tend to like my left grip to extend out further than the right. Hell of a lot more comfortable with the DIY grips i rigged up. The Proteus handles are both equal lengths.

Are there any options, or will there be in the future, options to choose different lengths for the connectors? I'd almost prefer one proteus shorty link and one longer one. Possible in any future offerings?

I'm using a HPX171 with a letus extreme and nikon lenses. Is it possible to assemble a rig with the proteus rails, shoulder mount set-up, with the cinevate handgrips, and still be using the on camera LCD? from all the pictures ive seen so far, the proteus shoulder mount rig holds the camera directly above the shoulder, hence the on camera LCD wont be usable.

Any information will be appreciated!

Jakeii, In standard config, yes the LCD will likely end directly in front of your eye depending on it's mount location. Most are using external monitors with it. One way to move the rig forward (particulary if you already have the rails system) is to pick up a second Proteus base plate from our upgrades catalog section. This would allow you to shoulder mount, leaving the rig in it's standard position. Having that extra baseplate will make a lot more sense in about 2 weeks :-) but I can't give anything away until our legal work is complete.

Puck, the short/long thing would be entirely possible as right now the short and long links are sold as a set. You'd just need to call us to get this sorted in the short term.

Tim/CarPa, the FF single mount supported a 22lb rig all by itself without slipping. With the follow focus-type fully toolless system, I'd have no qualms with a 50lb rig if you were using two. There would have to be a price increase to do this, but only in the $40 to $50 range including the the new tensioners. In their current form the grips have been used on rigs here up to about 25lbs.

the best buy I do this year. Not very nice (the worst color combinations I ever seen), but simple and efective. Allow what you need, avoid external monitor and use the lcd like a viewfinder:

Carpa which camera do you use that one? It seems like only people with the ex1 are using it, what would it be like on much lower res screen like the hpx's?

I also have an ex1, but I think it works in any camera with 3.5" lcd. Obviosly the quality depends on the lcd resolution, but it works in the same mode.
It allow me dont mount extra monitor when I use my 35mm adapter rig in shoulder mode, like a 2/3" camera viewfinder.

So I just got a set of proteus handles. They're pretty good, I like the simplicity and flexiblilty of the design. They're also hollow instead of solid to save on weight(although they could use an end cap to cover the bottom hole). One thing I did not like was the need to use an allen wrench to tighten them down. Finger tightening the thumbscrews just isn't enough to lock them down. They really are not toolless.

So that's where I decided to up the hottness of the handles. I went to MSCdirect and got some 1/4" 20 adjustable handles.

I saw two types I liked, one plastic and one metal so I got both to see which would work out better.

I ended up using the metal ball ones, they're slightly heavier, but are a little bit slimmer. The results are darn good. I can easily adjust and tighten the cinevate grips without an allen key. My rig is about 14-17lbs to give you an idea of how tight you can hand crank these.

Those are very similar to what we ship with the Pegasus Linear tracking systems. The new clamps are about 5 days away, (more powerful clamping), however these adjustable lever handles are excellent. We're actually getting them manufactured in volume to our specs using 100% non-corroding metal parts.
