Cinevate Flip - First units shipped!

Yes, customer service is a big one... Service with Cinevate has really been poor. The product is great, no doubt, but without a strong consumer service behind it, it won't go very far... Also more shipping options would be welcome. I wanted to buy the Cinevate base plate and rail and shipping added almost a third of the price of the item. I ended up getting a Cavision instead. I can understand why you would want to use fedex. but fedex ground or fedex 2 days is fine, no need for next day all the time, especially for accessories.

Cinevate Flip - First units shipped!

It's been a zany busy month but we've had our grand opening party, we're now fully ensconced in our new digs, video support studio done, and new staff in the house!

You'll start to hear some great reviews on our flip module by the end of this week but here it is...120 grams lighter yet than the previous version. The flip features an interface ring for seamless attachment to any Brevis units out there + 62mm threads to interface to other makes of adapters. The flip includes a removeable 72mm HD aspheric achromat that is fully coated and fully optimized to virtually eliminate chromatic and spherical aberration. We're intensely proud of this product as it offers outstanding imaging quality, perfect edge to edge sharpness, and near zero light loss in a dust proof package. Combined with the Brevis adapter, it's the lightest system on the planet at 2.3 lbs. It can be used in the camera "high" or camera "low" configuration while keeping the adapter unit upright. The alignment system (2 phase) means you can forget extra zoom-in for offset imaging cameras...and usable frame widths at least 10% wider than the SLR 36mm standard :-)

Large, small and ugly cams are all 100% supported :-) More info in this thread: http://cinevate.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1713

Guys, we've got a published business phone number, manned every day by our Customer Relations Specialist, Hubert Den Draak. Hubert has 25 years in the film industry, speaks four languages and is intimately connected with the operation. I can telll you that every email to sales@cinevate.com is answered, generally within the hour. Our new location (finished construction last week) includes a dedicated video support studio to provide visual support via SKYPE or MSN where requested. Our goal is to provide world class service and from this viewpoint I believe we're getting pretty close.

Fedex Express is slightly more expensive, particularly for small orders but they have huge benefits for both us and our customers worldwide. Keep in mind that our Express shipping rates are actually quite low (nearly half of "retail") due to volume discounts.

1. You get your parts overnight, well tracked, on time, and extremely reliably.

2. Shipping from Canada (where we're located) means potential brokerage charges for our customers...but that's included with Fedex Express.

3. Since starting with Fedex last winter, we have not lost a single package, and only one item has ever been damaged...a set of hollow carbon fibre tubes that got run over.

We've just come up with the procedure for the existing reservation/pre-flip bundle purchasers who'll have first crack at them as promised. Those folks will see emails with instructions/pics etc within 2 days :-)

I won't publicly confess to proclaiming any camera as ugly ... but fortunately I don't have to thanks to hyperlinks :-)

Dennis, do you have leeway to zoom in a bit on this while maintaining focus as you can do on the Letus? Thus giving yourself some flexibility on the frame size.

Lenny Levy

Lenny, yes with both the HV20 and XH-A1 you can zoom right up to 100% without losing focus. Don't do this though as both those cams have soft edges at full zoom! This is great news for OCT19 and PL mount users, 2/3" chip cam users, and SONY FX1/ZR1 users as the spacer ring is no longer required. With CF1Le being as efficient as it is and our two-point frame centering adjustment you won't need a lot of zoom-in.

If it's not the lightest, most light efficient adapter on the planet with the widest usable image frame, I'll eat one of our Cinevate caps :-)

Lenny, I'm about 99% certain on the EX-1, but we'll know (with footage) in a few days :-)

As far the SG, I"m about 99% sure on that one too.

John, our HPX500 should be here in a week or so. However, I know the question you're asking is really "When will it work with an HPX500 with it's stock lens removed?" Wink.

I get my flip unit on Monday from Dennis. I will be testing it in my usual way by taking it out and about and filming with it rather than doing lots of charts. Keep an eye on my blog next week for info on how well it works with the EX1.

Well now that Phil has come clean, I'll admit he'll be the one of our first users out there...and certainly with the EX-1 :-) He also has one of the most versatile collections of Brevis units out there with pretty much every imaging element we've made in his collection.

Like all of our stuff these days...when it's good enough for professional use! The Cinevate relay module has some rather lofty design goals, but it's number one on our plate for January/February :-)

That's great to hear that Philip is getting one. I'm about to take possesion of an EX-1 so that info is very important to me.
Dennis when you said that you could zoom in 100% did you mean you could zoom in all the way or just say half your full SLR size

Dennis,

When will the Flip unit available for those of us who previously purchased the HD Imaging Bundle?
I'm also very happy to hear a lot more work and effort is put into the customer service as it was the frustrating part after I got my unit. I'm excited abot the new Flip product and I'd love to hear more about its availability.

C.
