cinetactics Matteblox HD prototype

After months of work we have received our first fully working sample of the new Matteblox HD. It is designed specifically for the HVX200. Jarred just stopped by the studio and we checked it out on his HVX. I am happy to say that it fits perfectly and we could not see any vignetting. The new feature, other that it's size, is that it holds 2 4x4 or 4x6 filters in built-in slots. Now to get them manufactured.

Here is the secret link to a few images of the prototype: http://www.cinetactics.com/proto/mb125h.html

By the way, the mattblox anamorphic works great on the HVX with the standard shade attached. I wouldn't use it for filters but it works great for stray light control.

Greg- Nice pictures. I think you need some smoke and flames coming out of the back of the rods . . . fat little bugger looks like it's ready to take off!

LOL! Not what I was expecting to see but that looks pretty cool!

Why not metal or plastic? Or is it metal/plastic wrapped in the padded velcro material?

The fabric wrapped plastic panels are very durable; drop it, kick it, get it wet no problem. The fabric alllows the entire thing folds flat for easy transportation. The inside is lined with very matte velcro loop material, making it extremely non-reflective. And best of all the simple fabric construction makes it very affordable.

Looks promising Greg. My only concern is having the filters slip into plastic sleeves. Is there any way to harness the filters without another layer of clear plastic?

The built-in filter slots do not require our filter holder sleeves. The filter holders allow a third filter to be added. There are no layers of clear plastic involved. The built in slots hold the edges and the filter holders are open frames. The filters in the images both happen to be clear: a 4x4" Classic Soft 1/2 and a 4x5.65" Soft Centric 1.

Not yet, we are waiting for our manufacturer to make the final changes to the design. I will post when I know more.

Can you attach a price to this, so that we know what very affordable means in dollars and cents?

Looks like a great piece of kit! Very clever!

I know the question has been asked already (and I'm sure if you knew the answer, you would have posted it), but...

When?

Thanks!

We are planning on showing it off at NAB. Our location is still to be announced. We will have a bunch on hand for sale in person. The site will be updated when we receive our full stock.

Our pricing is nearly final, roughly 200$ for the Matteblox HD (including regular flag and case), approximately 50$ for the Matteblox HD Oversize Flag and around 45$ each for the various 82mm mounting rings.

There will be a discount for DVXusers, I am working on upgrading our site with a new shopping cart system (finally replacing PayPal) and haven't figured out the discounts part, so I can't announce anything specific, yet.

Just another 'looks good' comment. I appreciate the work you guys do to keep prices low. That's important to a lot of us who shoot on the HVX or otherwise we'd be using an F900 or varicam!

I'll do some testing with the Aussie outback if you like? (with nice product shots of course) :)

I've used the matteblox for the DVX since it first came out. It's very sturdy and I love the way it folds up. Takes up no room at all!!!!

Hey Greg, is it possible to get the cinetactics to work with one of the 35mm adaptors? I need something that would handle both the regular HVX and also with an m2 with lenses on it as well.
