Cinematography Reel for 2008

no offense this is just constructive criticism. you have managed to pick the worst song I have ever heard in a reel hah.

haha. no i expect to hear such things really.

i just pick the music i enjoy. which isn't usually what everyone wants, but whatever. hah.

The problem for me was that the music suggested a 'grunge' style... yet for the most part the shots were not 'grunge'... I just relooked at the first 20 seconds. The band has a distinctive beat sequence, yet for the most part you don't cut on the beats.

If the idea was to fill your demo reel with some 'energy' based on the rapid fire beat, then for example on the first 20 seconds there's a sequence that starts with some joker with wings, next shot is on a beat, but then the shots go out of sync with the beat, to the point were there's a couple of missed beats in the guy with girl and gun, girl with no eyes, then befuddled dude looking around looking around... which is totally out of sync with the beat track...

To match the energy of the music, I'd say some time ramping would be in order, etc. and very fast, quick, cuts.

The problem with such music may be there is no lull period, where some of your 'longer' shots can be shown without them not be 'harmonious' for some value of harmony, with the fast paced music.

Song was also too fast. If you were doing an action reel this would be perfect. The reel itself looked okay but started with some uninteresting shots. Check out these reels by DVXUsers:
