Cinematography | editing demo reel

Hi Somnang

Caveat - you have made videos/films a lot longer and a lot better than me. Take my thoughts for what they're worth.

I liked your reel. It had a good focus. After seeing it, I have a good idea of what you do, and there are some really good shots in there that definitely say you are competent at delivering this kind of action.

However, the two animated scenes seem out of place. Since this reel is about your cinematography, I would leave them out. You're selling your ability to shoot action movies here, and while the animations are neat and I can see them coming from some of the movies in your reel, they really don't sell you as a filmmaker.

Secondly, the music. This may just be me, but it doesn't really scream action to me. I would look at a few good movies in your genre, and listen to the scoring during the key action sequences and see what you can get that is similar to that.

Again, these are the thoughts from someone who has had considerably less experience than you in this industry, so while I hope it's helpful, take it for what it's worth. Best of luck.

My initial thought is that if you want to DP, edit, and direct, then you should have a separate reel for all of those.

Having one reel of everything seems to compromise too much. Music was okay till the last 30 seconds ago when it grabbed me out of the reel (just started sounding like an NES game instead of music).

The content of the reel itself is good though. Those are just my suggestions to help it work better for you.

Agreed, it's not so much the work that makes you seem unprofessional, but instead your title card that suggests you are 3 very different things.

Not too shabby, some of the shots were nice, but the pacing and music are a little off considering a lot of the content.

WOW thanks guys! This is exactly what I was looking for. Yeah I see what everyone is talking about having 3 different titles together into one reel. I'm going re-edit and probably just put either editing or cinematography. Also I'm definitely going to change the music. I just thought that by using popular song tracks, I might be infringing or get in trouble for it. And that animated clip, I'll probaby leave that out from the cinematography title as well. I do see that it's unrelated now.

Again thanks fellas!!
