Cinematic lens support for the AF100

Hi,
What are you guys using for cinematic lens support for the
AF100? Are standard rails (Zacuto, etc) sufficient or ??

thanks
jeff

You are going to have trouble fitting a support under that Cooke using standard mini iris rods and have it align properly.
You will likely need something mounted a little lower below standard 15mm rails.

The Cooke 20-100 is so large you will have to devise an underslung support. I am working in my shop this weekend to create just lens support. I will let you know what I come up with.

Timur uses the 18-100 with his F3. You will probably need a similar setup.

That would be great to see what you come up with.

We have the Zacuto universal and their rails and lens support .. but I don't feel it's going to be able to handle
the weight.

Ah, the Zucato riser baseplate will get you high enough, then an extra set of rod risers for the follow focus.

Jeff, I use an Element Technica 12" dove tail with Element Technica Hybrid 15mm Studio base plate, Hot Rod Cameras AF100 Tuner Kit, Zacuto 15mm Studio lens support and 2)15mm Studio to 15mm LWS adapters from Abel Cinetech. The two Abel Cinetech adapters are for matte box and follow focus, which are both 15mm LWS.

I hear OConnor will be shipping their new Universal Baseplate in July-August. It is designed for rods' height adjustment (to align the optical center) with small-to-medium camcorders such as the AF100, F3, and FS100. Can accommodate 15mm or 19mm horizontal rods. MSRP starts at $500 + options. This may be a step in the right direction for large cinematic lenses.

Thanks, Matt, I forgot about it. Berkey System had their baseplate for some time. It appears to be slightly more expensive at $590. Another disadvantage is short vertical rods of 1 and 1.5 inches (25 and 38mm) and even shorter adjustment because of the clamps shape and their location inside the plate. They have a product video, and the reviewer decides to not bother with the 2nd screw because his fingers would not fit in. He downplays this fact by saying that there is enough tork with just a single screw. Of course, we believe him... :) The OConnor product has the clamps bridges moving outside the plates with a lot more travel on standard 2.65 inch (67mm) vertical rods, which can be swapped out with optional shorter variety. Both baseplates appear to have decent build quality.

thanks Jeff ... much appreciated. you know .. this forum is worth it's weight in gold ... which i'm not sure
how to measure ... but it's a lot :-)

Jeff, sorry for the crappy quality photos. Here are a few shots of my temp setup.
This will change as soon as my 19mm lens support mount arrives. I'll post full details when I change it out.

I have done a little reworking of the support system.
19mm Allstar baseplate setup with a 19mm to 15mm bracket to support the 15mm rails.
Then a 19mm lens support below the Cooke to provide lens support.
