CineForm

Well done on the Dalsa/CineForm/HP/Adobe/Intel video (forgot anyone ?). Lots to discuss in time to come. Also, nice to see the two David's in flesh and blood (well, you are almost a star by now, D.Taylor was the low profile lol)

Quick question!

last night I shot chroma key footage in DVCPRO 50 for a project I shot a year ago in regular DV. I used Prospect to change the files to Cineform AVI:

In my HVX I shot at DVCPRO 50, Squeeze, 24p

My settings were:
*Automatically convert to CineForm intermediate
*Quality: Higher
*Frame Format: Progressive
*Frame rate no change (because I didn't see an option to make it 30p like my DV Project settings in Premiere)
*Resize video: None (becaue there is not an option for DVCPRO 50.

Are these the correct settings? Premiere sees the footage as 4;3, which is easy enough to correct.

Hope to hear from someone with DVCPRO 50 exprience before I get too far in compositing.

THanks!

Thanks!

Higher or FilmScan1 is good the DVCPRO-50 (which is itself one of the lighter compressors.)

When you say : "*Frame rate no change (because I didn't see an option to make it 30p like my DV Project settings in Premiere)"

Why do you want 24p to be 30p?

When you say : "*Resize video: None (becaue there is not an option for DVCPRO 50.)"

The resize doesn't care about source formats, so you can resize DVCPRO-50 so any in the list. If the is an output format missing we can simply add it.

I gather 24p in DVCPRO-50 uses pulldown over 60i, so you will want to use pulldown extraction.

Regarding 4:3 vs 16:9 for SD, unfortunately the DirectShow DVCPRO-50 decoder doesn't tell us which it is. It is straight forward to use intepret footage to see it as 16:9.

David...!

Sorry! I didn't realize I had an old version of Prospect installed. My bad.

So I need to extract Pulldown. That explains the interlaced frames when I pulled it into Premiere. It was awefull.

The newer Prospect HD version has NTSC.

Before I got my HVX I neved used 24p. All I have to do if there is a problem is change Premieres interpretation of the footage... that goes for the aspect ratio, too.

The rest of the short film was shot with a GL-1 with it's 30p emulation (where it plays each frame twice)... I was hoping to avoid smooshing the footage from last night until I got the compositing finished.

I don't see a problem any more.

Thanks!

Sorry if this has been asked but.....how do I convert .mxf files on my system that has the latest aspect HD on it, but not any P2 vieweing software? I no longer own an HVX but I have 7-8 P2 cards archived on my portable drive. I decided to finally edit them but Aspect HD appears to require P2 software on my system to do this? How do I work around this? Surely their are people out there that edit .mxf files for others who do not own the HVX and therefore the software that comes with it?

Thanks!

John,
A Quicktime version of CineForm is coming soon, in the meantime you should convert to a QT format your Mac recognizes.

The code is designed to remove pulldown from either pA or regular pulldown, for SD and HD sources. It works very well.

David

Does cineform support 720p 60 Hz file format from the Pani HVX?

Sorry for not reading all 60 pages of this thread. Newbie question probably................ :embarasse.

Thanks

David,

Sorry for posting here, I did find some other posts on support of AVCHD in ConnectHD yesterday, but now I can't find them again...

I have a friend who's just bought a Sony SR1 and is struggling with editing the footage - I'd like to suggest Cineform editing to him.

When will support of AVCHD be available in ConnectHD?

Thanks

Simes

AVCHD support is likely to happen in the next months, however our plate is full with high end project a the moment, so we can't pull this is closer than Q1 '07. If you or your friend is technical, there are ways to convert AVCHD to CineForm AVIs today, it just isn't an integrated solution.

Could you tell us more about such ways?

Yes, I am technical, so please let me know how that's possible.

I don't have ConnectHD yet, I'm waiting for the Canon A1 to arrive in the UK! :( But I will be purchasing ConnectHD at the same time as the cam (I use Vegas mostly now, but have also used virtualdub, avisynth and all the free tools I could get my hands on).

Is it possible with the standard ConnectHD install?

Thanks

Simes

I started a 720p24 project with footage converted with Connect HD. I'm using Premiere Pro 1.5.1. My trial of Connect HD ended awhile ago, and so far, everything has been great- but after I rendered the timeline for the first time (using the default Color Corrector effect), it refused to play. Clips without effects on them will play, but everything that has been rendered freezes for a few long seconds.

I know Aspect HD is optimized for Premiere, but only Connect HD is in the budget. Are there any known issues with Connect HD and Premiere? Or could it be that because my trial has since expired, it doesn't want to correctly render new files?

Thanks!
