CineForm

My accidental fault.
MAnipulating the nvidia settings the screen settings went on clone instead of dual view and created the problem. But even following the cineform ssettings for nvidia the image, when playback starts , brightens and soften noticeably.

So you are seeing a brightening you still need to tweak your nvidia settings (why NVidia doesn't calibrate their cards ??? -- it is slightly different on every model of NVidia card.) The softening you can also control -- in the CineForm playback settings control panel turn on "Disable preview playback", this will get you the image your expecting (with some decrease in performance -- it is under your control.)

David, if I understand correctly, the PHD 10bit files play directly out of the Xena as HD-SDI, and without requiring a super RAID drive setup to do typical uncompressed 10bit HD. very cool

That is correct. As a 10-bit CineForm compressed AVI at 1920x1080 24p is typically under 20MB/s, a single SATA drive will have no problems playing it back. It is for this reason we think offlining is dead, as you can now store all the source footage in HD on a single system. We have many customer with 40 hours of 1920x1080p24 10bit on their workstations. Try doing that uncompressed.

I'll keep the softening, mine is not the fastest machine. For the nvidia setting, let me tel you, is not easy, i'll keep tryings new settings.
Talking about the prospect output: my jobs overboosted in quality (and price) with the passage from the Z1 to the hvx, now I think my quality outputs are having the same jump with the possibility of working in 10 bits. I'll compare 8 bit frames with 10 bit frames to be more understandable. Now i'm going on a three days shooting in Umbria.
Best.

Informal. To make an extravagant show of appreciation or desire.

I am in my thinking too much mode atm. I like laptops and thinking a good combo - HVX and DV Rack for monitoring/recording HD to lappy hard drive (waiting for confirmation by team beta and final release re: DV Rack HD recording options).

CineForm Prospect HD would be ideal for me, though a Xena card is no use to a laptop user, an interesting alternative, the recent release of the Matrox MXO, ideal for laptop users requiring HD-SDI output and other analogue outputs to deck/monitor.

Only prob is MXO is for Mac and I am PC based, and I am not seeking a new Intel Mac lappy. I will wait to see how the new Intel chips evolve (Merom) anyway. I am guessing that MXO will be an 8 bit HD-SDI output. Interesting evolution going on here.

DAVID:

Dumb question:

I just shot a short in 720 24PN, rendered it as an 720 x 1280 AVI in Cineform.

In Premiere I see the options for the 720 24P are an HDV codec. Whassup with that? Do I just need to make it 1920 x 1080 from the get go?

Thanks!

Mike,

The preset name of 1280x720p24 HDV, does not mean there is an HDV codec, there isn't, CineForm only does wavelet codecs. We just have a large number of HDV users, and 720p24 is not an standard HDSDI mode. So that is the mode you want. You can even change the name of the preset if you like :)

Thanks, David.

Enjoyed your movie, by the way.

I'd like to do one of those 2 day film projects one of these days,

It is the only time can spare for filmmaking myself, a weekend is just perfect for a 7 minute movie. I happy you like it, it is so gratefying to see it downloaded so many times (1000+ so far), but it also nice to hear feedback.

David, I just purchased Aspect HD, but when I try to install it, the program is claiming (incorrectly) that my system clock is "set back, possibly in an attempt to defeat" the security measures on the software. How do I fix this problem? My system clock/calendar is 100% accurate.

thanks

Tom, thank you for the order. But this Q is clearly one that should go through our trouble ticket system if you don't mind. Our guys will be in the office in a little while.

Hi David(s)

I have noticed that every time I open HDlink and go to Prefs it does not keep my last settings (actually the frame rate convertion changes only, from 25 >24 I always use to 23.976 > 24 (+01%) ). Today I was in a rush and captured without going to Prefs first but after I was done only to see that everything was OK. So, it keeps the last settings in memory or not ? Is this a bug ?

Thanks
Andreas

just downloaded the trial version of Aspect HD and tried to convert the files from DV rack HD but the files aren't recognized. Is there a way to use DV Rack HD and Aspect together?

Thanks,

Bird

Bird,

Yes soon. There is a small issue with the files out of DV Rack that should be addressed soon.

---

Andreas,

My settings are being saved, as it should. You aren't seeing that?

Will I be able to do another trial at that time? Even tho I'm now on the clock so to speak with the present version, it's not doing me any good since I can't see how it will work.

Thanks,

Bird

With major new releases we often extend the trial peroid. Once the DVRack issues are worked out we might do that. If we don't there are ways we can offer individuals 15 days more upon request.

Good News!

How will we get the new version? Download again? and how will you let us know?

Thanks,

Bird
