cineform+5d+Zoom H4n=audio not lining up.

Basically, we shot an interview using a 5DmII with the firmware update, and recorded our audio separate using a Zoom H4n. I got back from our small studio space and ran the 5D footage through cineform's neoscene as usual. Now, when I try and line up the audio from our clapper, the beginning sounds good, but the audio rather gets away from me over the two minute interview. Any idea on how to fix this?

does the audio line up in the original MOV files?

If it does then it might be something with cineform doing a rate change.

If it doesn't then it might be your settings on the zoom h4n.

I believe you have to change the speed of the audio to .999 or something. There is thread here that explains it and I can't seem to find it. there is an easy fix for it though.

Ok, I think it's a Neoscene audio issue indeed, as the audio lines up perfect with the raw camera footage. So here's my work around until cineform provides an update:

1. import both (the camera .mov file and my neoscene .avi file) clips into your NLE.
2. Line up external audio with the ORIGINAL camera file.
3. Bring in the cineform/neoscene version of the file & delete the audio for it.
4. Line up the video from the cineform/neoscene file to your .mov camera file.
5. Group/pair/link the cineform video to the .mov's & external audio.
6. Delete the .Mov video, keeping it's audio paired to the cineform file.
7. Mute the incamera audio track.

It's annoying. But until cineform provides an update...it's all we can do.

I have been researching 5d mkii workflows and I was curious, if you're using the latest firmware (2.0.4) why do you need the neoscene package? This is the first I've heard of using this, but I am new to 5d video production.

Now with the new firmware neoscene isn't needed to convert to NTSC framerate standards, however, it's still a great product to convert to the proper black and white levels (which get clipped when bringing into an NLE) and more importantly it converts your footage to the cineform codec which is a lot less processor intensive and is a lot more robust for color correction purposes.
