Chrosziel Matte Box for HVX200?

Does anyone know what the holdup is on Chrosziel's matte box setup for the HVX200? Usually by now they've listed something for a new camera. Any thoughts or such on the matter?

Speaking of Matte Boxes, are there any other ones besides the Chrosziel that will be a good fit with the HVX? Especially any that are priced reasonably? It seems this is one of those items that is way over priced for a sub 10K camera. I mean putting a $1500-$3000.00 Matte Box on a 5K camera is a bit much.

Yes it is overpriced for what it really does, however, I've still got all of these 4x5 filters and would love a little clamp on matte box that I could use them in.

Chrosziel is great stuff. There is one on ebay now for $1000.. 3 Panavision size filters plus a donut. A matte box is a career long investment. But it right, ***** about how much it costs, and be happy for 30 years ....

I have one that’s been thru 4 cameras & 3 girlfriends …
Need I say more …

Why is everything on the Vocas site always CG? I'd like to see one of their products in an applied photograph for once. CG might look good on the laptop, but I want to see the fit and finish of the final product in-use.

I believe that is a Vocas matte box and rail system on page 8 of the HVX200 brochure.

Whoa! Thisiswells comes through with the elusive Vocas photo. I like the dual-guage iris rod clamp system. Cheap looking, but elegantly sexy in concept.

Okay, this is for you out there that do not want to spend a couple of thousand and for those that do not care that a matte box "looks" more professional.

This is for those that need it cheap and have 4x4 and 4x5 filters .

Cokin makes a filter holder called the Z-pro filter holder I think around $50. Has screw on rings for all sizes like 82mm.

Theres a couple of clamp on or hot shoe attachment french flags ( sunshades). Adorama has one for $40. You can make side ears out of black show card card if you want like I've seen a lot of pro AC's do.

There you go $90 and it does most of what a 1600 matte box does. Saves set up time to.

Do the Chrosziel matte boxes work just for one camera or can they be upgraded to work on others? Or is it a universal matte box that just slides to the front of the camera via the rails?

I've got a Formatt matte box, pretty cool looking and it makes my GL1 look like a big camera when looking at the front of it, but I'd like rails for future purposes.

They can be fitted with threaded adapters that fit "most" cameras. Or, for rods use, they use a simple rubber gasket, for lack of a better word, to "seal" in the light.

The Vocas 350 is the biz. Really superbly made, widescreen and not as expensive as the Chroz. Perfect for the HVX200.

Nice lookin pics!

And thanks for the downloads section on your site - that VideoSpace widget is going to come in handy

FWIW, the Cokin was my first "matte box" back in '98. It leaked light so bad it was useless! I could see the filter being reflected into the lens!

Dude, professional photographers use filter holders all the time. I've seen DPs use them for low proflie work in super 16mm. I guess the operative word is professional.

Glad you like the widget. As far as matte boxs go I tested both the chrosziel and vocas and decided to go with the latter as its flawless and it costs less than the chrosziel equivalent.

regards

Rich
