Chromatic Abberation

Does this bother anyone? Are there ways to reduce it? These are samples from various clips in the forum, and I believe they all mention using just the stock lens.

Truthfully, when the footage is playing I hardly ever notice it.
To me, the things that make the HVX great outweigh it.

I've had lots of people over and showed them my footage. Never had one say "Hey, what's the purple outline there?"
:)
When you point it out, it's pretty blatant but in reality unless you tell people to look for it, they never notice it.

True, I know i shouldn't be so picky, but it does bother me, particularly when it appears on such great footage (i.e. Wolves)

I also notice that it usually happens on the left side of the image. Which makes me think if panasonic got it ligned up on one side, why didnt they spend more time on the other.

But it looks like on the still from my wolf footage it's on the right side. But, I do see it more on the left that's correct. You can see it in the new wolf clip I uploaded but again, unless you're looking for it, most people never even notice.

Barry would be the one to comment since he showed my wolf clip over and over at NAB how many people commented on it.

I've seen all those clips several times and never noticed that sheen, Honestly I haven't seen it at all on any of my footage either. I guess it's because the images are so amazing It's not a concern. It must have something to do with sun glare on the lens, It's certainly not on all footage.

yes, it bothers me to see that when you stop the footage, place an arrow in it and comment on it......BUT thank god that NEVER happens when people view footage, so no, it's not a big deal at all, honestly i never even knew what CA was until someone a long while ago brought it up (which i bet is the case with a lot of people) not ever seeing it.

Doesn't Bother Me at All

Doesn't Bother Me at All

I've seen a lot of this footage and I've never noticed the CA. Now that you've pointed it out and I see it, it still doesn't bother me. The clips that these stills come from look GREAT. And so when you stop the clip and point out some small areas of CA it just doen't bother me.

I'll bet that if I grab some my old commercials and music videos (that were sgot on 16mm and 35mm and then transferred to video and edited) and dumped them into my computer, grabbed still frames and magnified them a bit, I'd find some CA also.

By the way, those older projects still look great, but I'm preferring my HVX over them; and I never thought I'd shoot video.

Funny, because the XL-H1 and the JVCHD100 are bashed for this same thing.

When the footage is moving, it doesn't matter. Only the artists notice.

Thanks Snodart, From that wikipedia explanation I think we got a dead ringer. Purple fringing. that would also explain why it is only present in those few shots, and how to avoid it.

Why does the HVX have much more abberations then the DVX?
Is it cause of HD, Lens, and more pixels on ccd?

It is most ovbious with bright to dark edges, full telephoto, full wide mainly in the corners. I see it the most with full telephoto. I may purchase a century 1.6x to help with it. It is usually the sign of a less expensive lens but you have to spend a lot to get a lens that doesnt have it.

Panny is pushing the limit with the system Teeck, all of those are factors.

the right side may have a yellowish fringe. My eye glasses do that. the left sde gets a blue fringe, the right a yellow one.

But i think it kinda happens at full telephoto. or when the lense is at its extremes.

I am not sure if it happpens when at wide or at middle Z numbers.

Also the DVX has purple fringe as well. Scrutinize the footage you will see it alllover the palce.
