Chroma

hello, I am shooting a videoclip at the beach (summer and sun) with my dvx100b and I will use a mobile GREEN SCREEN in order to add a 3D figure to the action in post that interferes with the real characters.
What colour is the best for the screen, blue, green...?-I thought about green to avoid seablues- and has anyone suggestions about scene settings for the dvx or lighting to get best results?

Green is easier to key out in post because of dv format, or so I read somewhere here :) so your choice for greenscreen is good.
As for lighting, first you have to be careful and avoid mixing color temperatures because you're shooting outside.
Make sure you use 5400K (daylight filter) on your lights (if you're using tungsten balanced kits) or just bounce sunlight with a lot of reflectors.
For technical explanation on lighting a greenscreen (in the studio) here is the link:

As for the DVX100 scene settings for greenscreen, I don't know of the perticular one, but this link is very helpful:

Not sure why you need the green screen at the beach? Isn't the beach going to be the background you composite the 3D figure into?

I think D J is right why do you use a green / blue screen outdoor. Chroma keying effects is for putting the subject on a background that is shot seperately.

Just seems strange that you would do that. In our last 2 corperate videos, we use that to put the subject on a surreal background thus the need to shoot them seperate.

The reason is a 3D virtual person that has to talk to and even kiss a real guy. The real actor is at the beach and finds this unreal girl. I don´t know much about 3D, but I am testing around with the "speciallist": the camera pans from the beach to the green screen, following this guy, he walks to the virtual girl standing in front of the green screen, this way it is much easier to "cut" the guy and include her behind his shoulder and maintain the same lighting conditions on him (bouncing sunlight). Besides that, it probably becomes a stary night as soon as they kiss...
Thanks for your advices, I´ll still continue trying, shooting is in September!

:dankk2: I tried green screen (green curtain indeed) with following settings I found in this page for a different camera : progressive, chroma cinelikev, detail -3, chroma +2, master ped -2 (can someone tell me what´s the master ped?), it was cloudy daylight. The 3D specialist was so happy with the result!! the green disappears cleanly and makes his job much easier. As soon as I can show you something, I will hang it somewhere in the web for you to see it, thanks, Elsa.

80% of pro filmakers use Blue Screen....
its your choice...

True, but that's because they are using film. Film responds better to blue due to emulsion issues. If you are keying with DV it is better to use green as there is twice the amount of chroma information on the green channel as there is on the other two channels (red, blue). So, while your point is valid it doesn't apply to the situation at hand. If pro filmmakers shot with DV they'd more likely use green.
