Chroma key test footage - Nano vs. AVCCAM

The image has to much green spill to pull a clean matte with one click. It's a two pass key. first pull a solid core matte, then duplicate the footage and pull an edge key for detail.

I don't know what half of that means... sigh. I have a lot to learn about keying..

What was your conclussion on the test you did?
Kind of trying to avoid making one. I'm not that much of a post guy and I'm certainly not a keying expert.

I will say this though -- while normally I find it a little challenging to see areas where the AVCCAM codec struggles and where the Nano shows clear superiority, the red wig is a case where it's easily discernible. There's just so much detail in that wig, with the backlighting and everything, and then you add in the wind, and the AVCCAM goes crunchy and blocky but the Nano is pristine. It's really a substantial improvement.

I think the differences are more noticeable in the redhead shots than in the blonde shots.

If you want to download just the stills, that's quick and easy and you can see what I'm seeing. But I don't think a keying test on stills tells you all that much, I think that if someone wants to test out the advantages in keying, they would be best served to do it on the motion footage to see how much of a real difference there is.

Could only fit two and a half seconds (60 frames) under mediafire's 200mb limit... it's uploading now. Check back in an hour or two.

Can you upload a second file with the next 60 frames? Five seconds should be enough time to give a decent look at whats going on.

Man, there must be a science to using keylight, cause im trying to get a good key in CS5

It's extremely difficult to get a good key pull in Premiere. It's just not designed for effects work. After Effects is another story. Super easy to get a good key pull in that even from poorly lit bg screen.

That's what I'm saying, even in after effects i couldn't get he kind of key that October was getting. He's supposed to give us something special soon to help us noobs.

Yeah, it's great because it's free. It takes a while to upload - but at that price you can't beat it.

It looks like it will be up in 3 hours.
