Chris Nolan's "INTERSTELLAR"

I think this has more potential than Inception. Don't get me wrong, I loved Inception, but at the end of the day it was kind of a gimmick. This is obviously much more "hard sci-fi", delving into ideas that can challenge our perception of reality. It will be interesting to see whether Nolan finally tries to break free of the mold and make a truly challenging film, or whether this will be yet another very well made big-budget action film that he does so well. If he wants to ever be considered an artistically important filmmaker, then I hope he tries to push it. Either way, I know I will enjoy this movie.

I think Nolan has made a few challenging films already. I feel Inception is one of them. Memento definitely. Following was amazing as well. I totally understand what you mean by "hard sci-fi" though. He's never tackled something as blatantly sci-fi as this premise... hopefully, it'll be in the vain of his earlier works, relying more on story structures than being a big-budget action film. It's interesting 'cause this time around he'll collaborate with a new DP, Jessica Chastain (she's a GREAT talent), and Steven Speilberg is in the mix too -- wondering how much could that effect Nolan's vision this time around. Either way, I am stoked for this.

After looking at this teaser I'm wondering how Sci-fi this will be.

Perhaps more like Contact?

If I were to sum up the teaser: "Matthew McConaughey cries while driving."

Re-reading this thread though, I chuckled again, as I did before, reading this:

Ah DVXuser, how I love thee.

Will it be more mind-blowing than INCEPTION, in your honest opinion?

I didn't care for Inception. It didn't look like the dream it was supposed to be, it looked like a James Bond movie. Adn the ending was just lazy. It was all a dream. Or was it? Bleh.

I think this movie will be good if what we saw in the trailer is in the first 15 minutes of the movie, and the rest of the movie is about what they find past the worm hole. If the last shot of the movie is going through the worm hole, so we the audience can just wonder what's out there...bleh.

Yes Yes a million times Yes.

The first trailer was a good tease. This new trailer (Trailer 3) actually had me feeling a bit underwhelmed. It's a bit to 'soapy' with the children story and not wanting to leave them. Nolan was saying, during the release of Inception, that the 'real' ending is that Hobbs made it back to his children...ummm okay not really, I don't think anyone cared about that. And that's how I'm feeling about this one so far.

Then again, hopefully the next trailer will be a bit more interesting and understanding.

I haven't seen a bad film from Nolan yet, so I'm pretty juiced he is making a scifi drama. I feel like it will be a lot like Contact, but just much much more lush on the visuals and concept.

I hate when they use real life footage to promote a commercial hollywood sci fi premise. It feels cheap and for some reason exploitive to me, like real footage really reveals what we're watching - fluffy hollywood sci fi tinsel meant to play with your mind so that you will be entertained and buy tickets. Nothing wrong with that, but historical footage often puts me out of a movie by starkly contrasting what's real and what's entertainment.

Just saw it. Interesting film. Didn't feel overly long, yet was a hefty 2hrs 49mins.

Loved the allusions to 2001. Anyone else catch it?

I loved it, but this film was like a torpedo aimed right at my nerd g-spot. Objectively, I can see the story has some holes in it, the physics are dubious, the sound mix was unbalanced in spots, and the detour into metaphysical schmaltz at the end won't work for everyone, but it sure as hell worked on me.

It's his least cohesive movie beyond TDK Rises for me. Plot holes galore, lots of exposition as usual, etc. Ambitious, visually stunning, and I appreciate Nolan's desire to strive for something higher...I just think he missed the mark with this one. It got overhyped way too early. The internet didn't do Nolan any favors on this one.

6.5/10 for me. Maybe a 7 on a repeated viewing depending on how it strikes me. Not sure this one will be very repeatable for me.
