Hi,
I'm a former DVX100 user and just bought the hmc40, got it today, can anyone suggest the correct setting for using 24p without all of the choppy footage. Tried both 24 and 30p but both seem to chop and chunk along. Thanks very much!!

One suggestion would be to fix your shutter at 1/50th or 1/60th, respectively ... faster shutters accentuate the chopiness.

Here's an interesting experiment for you to try:

Start with the shutter speed set to 1/24 of a second and record some action footage. Next, increase the shutter speed to 1/48 of a second, ..., and 1/120 of a second. It is possible to set the shutter speed while recording.

Once recorded, play back the clip(s). You'll notice that at 1/24 of a second the movement seems normal, but there's a lot of motion blur in the movement. At 1/48 of a second, you'll find a balance between motion blur and a strobe like effect. As you go to higher and higher shutter speeds, the movement becomes more strobe like.

Now try the same experiment at 720/60p. As the frame rate becomes higher, the impact of the strobe effect becomes less.

Is OIS on? I have had mixed results with OIS, especially when panning. If you are on stix, turn it off for sure.
