Choosing a camera bag

Hi everyone,

I'm still looking for a camera bag/case. I looked at a softer Kata case (a longish one), the Pelican 1550 and the Pelican 1510.

I'm generally just bringing my camera to and from set, though I do documentaries from time to time as well, and it's hard to say definitively if there will be trekking around with it in the future. I guess I'm looking for a high degree of versatility in a bag.

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with a HVX in the Pelican 1510. I like the size in general (I don't have a lot of accessories), and the airport thing could potentially be a key feature (no overseas gigs yet, still looking!), but I found the camera just barely fit in there. It doesn't seem like I would be able to use much foam, especially on the bottom.

What about soft cases? Is that really enough protection for the camera? I like that they're cheaper and easier to cart around, but I would be worried about bumps and drops.

I guess I'm just seeking general opinions and input. Any thoughts?
