Choices ... choices .....

Hey all,

I've been thinking about a movie that I would like to shoot with this new HVX200 camera. With the so many choices it will provide, it has opened up a lot of possibilities that weren't ... well ... possible before ...

But these choices are also making me go insane over what to shoot with - 1080/24p or 720p w/variable frame rates. I would love to shoot in 1080/24p but I can see shots that would benefit more from 720p (lots of slow motion scenes for example). So this got me thinking ...

What do you guys think of shooting in 1080/24p but for shots that required a motion difference, shoot in 720p (and with whatever variable framerate). Do you think the footage will work well together? Would some sort of uprez method, such as using Photozoom Pro, for the 720p footage to 1080p yield good results? I know we really can't answer because we haven't seen footage, but I just wanted your thoughts on this ....

Best,

Mike

I say we get it and try it. No way to answer without actually testing it.

If you're on a Mac, Graeme Nattress is reporting amazing results with his Magic Rescaler (or whatever it's called), so it may be a practical option.

Thanks Barry.

Didn't think about Nattresses Rescaler. Have you used it before on DV? How are the results? I now await for Nattress's reponse saying how great it really is :-)

And he'll probably be right ... his filters rock!

I haven't had first-hand experience with any of his software -- he's Mac-only. But I've never heard anything but praise for his work, and I had the pleasure of meeting him and talking in person at NAB. Graeme is the real deal.
