Chinese 2K RAW S35 Cinema Camera, 8000 dollars

The Chinese do produce a lot of rubbish, but they also currently produce 40% of the electronic products made in the entire world. Some of it is very high quality high end stuff, and they certainly have the knowledge to produce very high quality gear if they want to.
It remains to be seen where this particular line of products will fall.

This will be rubbish. China dont have any good designers or artists working on technology items. period. If it were an exact copy of the alexa, for 8k it might be worth it, but still the operating system will be rubbish and hard to navigate. The buttons will have a lifetime 1/100th of the lifetime of those buttons used on true professional gear. the mounts will be made from cast pewter, the fans will be cheap, and when it goes wrong, no one will be able to make head or tail of the horrid electronic design, blobbed with hot glue gun to hold them all in place. Cant believe this garbage is getting such interest!.

I can't believe you said that out loud. People used to say that about the Japanese too. Blah, Blah, Blah, if you're not interested in this cam, don't click on the thread and read it. Find what you are interested in and participate. Plenty of intelligent people have interest, and if we don't have interest....we find some thing we are interested in and support/input there.

I'll let their product speak for its self when the time comes....if it's not to my liking, I'll simply move on. On that note....please just move along. (As you have no interest in this product.)

Table for one?

Table for one?

Table for two, please.

I'll call a spade a spade.

Where I live, in East Africa, the market has become flooded, absolutely flooded, with Chinese Junk. I learned pretty quickly not to buy it, no matter how good a deal it looked.

There is no question about Chinese manufacturing of foreign products - the standard is very high for iPhones and what not.

But Chinese designed products, in my personal experience as a consumer of various products thus far, has been entirely negative.

Maybe this camera will set a new bar, I hope so, but I sure won't be the first in line to buy one, no matter how good a deal it looks. But that doesn't mean I can't look at the thread and see how things develop, right?

If the reviews look good, then I'll change my mind.

What makes something worth using?

What makes something worth using?

If the reviews look good, then I'll change my mind.

Well, who is doing the review?

And does the camera offer something in the image quality worth the effort or risks?

Sometimes there are reasons for selecting a camera other than how long the buttons will last, maybe?

If you have a concern about such issues, then why not email them and talk about your concerns?

==

The accessories shown in those photos are from Konvas, Mitchell, and made by me, they are not all Kinefinity.com (sm) accessories, so no need to find fault with their quality issues. I replaced the mounting block for the monitor with one I made that is all metal, they did not make that part it came with the monitor, I sent them a photo of my block design.

I don't see these issues as all or nothing. No camera has all the features and price that anyone wants, and for sure a Digital Cinema Camera is not something everyone needs, as they are not making feature films and such. But its up to people themselves to make up their own mind based on what the results look like, and such, if its something they think they would find useful, perhaps?

I plan on making some more lens demo videos, and I have seen images shot with the KineRAW-S35 (tm) as I was helping them by making some monitoring 'look' tables to use in their second prototypes for shooting calibration frames so the ISO and K and such readout on the camera's monitor when the values are selected in the menus and such. I've been talking to them during their camera development over the last 4 years and have added support for their cameras to my free de-Bayer program that is part of my freeish DI system.

They have been developing wide workflow support and the camera converts the monitoring 'look' files into 3D-LUT for use with various professional workflows like Iradis Speed Grade (tm) and Cineform (tm) GoPro (tm) as well as Adobe (tm)'s products and the CinemaDNG frames and Cineform (tm) can be converted into just about anything else to edit in FCP and just about any other system using like Prores (tm), H.264, or uncompressed AVI by way of third party programs some of which may be free.

The color on the monitor looks better than what I was able to get with the camera shooting the shots above, and the images on the monitor were shot with the lenses shown in the photos.

I had some issues with the firmware when I got the test camera for helping with the development of my free de-Bayer program, but they made some changes and sent updates to load into the camera, and its working well now, not quite flawless but it records glitch free so far with the updated firmware and 60GB SSDs and has a nice viewfinder with 100% and 200% zoom as well as anamorphic un-squeeze that supports lenses with ratios 1.25x, 1.33x. 1.5x, 1.75x, and 2x for making Scope movies or using the 1920x1440 mode for 16:9 oversample etc. You can read more on my Vimeo pages if you are interested.

Well, who is doing the review?

No, I mean reviews of the final production camera, not the prototypes.

Once the actual camera is on the market I will be interested to read the reviews to see how it handles in real world scenarios, as will a great many people.

that camera need to be fine tuned piece of machinery same as good old american RED ONE...
;)

China produce lot of cheap junk just because that people are buying it and from your very big anger I guess you bought a lot of chinese junk in your life ...
And because no buyer want to blame himself that he is a dumb, they rather blame manufacturer that he makes junk ...

But you can always cool down on this chinese junk for only 149K $

Anyway that was bit a waste of time and now back to the camera and to something more constructive like news from Dan.

I wholeheartedly aggree: that's some serious junk! I'm sure everybody around here would LOVE to use that on a feature film

Anyone else read the part where that Junk was an ex-brothel?

There must have been a lot of ...errrr.... 'junk' in that junk...

Ok so we already have one vaporeware camera and now is coming a junk camera. What a lovely time :D

I can't believe you said that out loud.

Why? Every word is spot on.

If you have a concern about such issues, then why not email them and talk about your concerns?

Because if he does that they'll be very helpful, have lots of good information, and reassure him. Before they have his money, they'll be great.

It's only once something has gone wrong and he needs tech support that suddenly no one at the company will speak any English.

I cannot understand all the negativity regrading the build quality of this camera? Have any of you used it? If you don't like it, then don't buy it. Don't shoot it down simply because it is "Made in China". Virtually all the electronics in your households are made in China. China probably has more manufacturing experience in electronics than any other country in the world now. There are always going to be components that go down. RED cameras are made in the USA and cost and arm and a leg, but hell, even they have their issues.

You're repeating points that have already made. Nobody here has tried the production version of the 35mm Raw Camera, but people will inevitably discuss how the envisage it might turn out.

But you can't deny that certain products, made in certain regions, have a specific reputations; thats just a reality.

Thats the reason Swiss Watchmakers can use their country as a selling point. Optics from Germany will hold a certain reputation. Champagne from France has a certain pedigree.

Those reputations have been built up over time.

Made in China? Not there yet.

Made in China? Not there yet.

This is a joke, right? Or you have been hiding under a rock?

Sure there's junk made everywhere. But your blanket statement that China only makes junk is unfounded.

Every piece of hi tech electronic product I use, from my phone to my laptop, and yes even the camera I use to make a living is made in China. I have no complaints about the quality of "Made in China." (All politics aside of course.)

Last I heard, some of China's hi tech manufacturing capabilities approach world class, fueling one of the fastest GDP growth, and companies around the world competing to get into China.

If KineRaw cameras ever make it to market and with decent R&D, marketing, and customer support, it looks to be a contender with the best of them.

It's only once something has gone wrong and he needs tech support that suddenly no one at the company will speak any English.

What's the point of this? You;re assuming that this CHINESE company primarily wants to sell to the US? Sounds to me from all the reports that they will look to the Chinese market first and other Asian markets second.

Successful companies become successful in their domestic market, then scale up and increase their capacity to do business internationally. Don't none of you use Sony, Canon or Panasonic? just examples, obviously KineRaw is none of these corporations. The point is if theyre serious about wanting to sale to the US, obviously they'd want to sell to US customers who speak Ameringlish and would create a network of US sellers to deal with US buyers.

So no, you wouldnt need to speak Chinese to part with your dough to play with this cam.

There's just to many (bad) assumptions creeping up lately distracting from the reports on this camera.
