Chicago Bootcamp

For an extra $50, we can work something out.

I was drinking a nice cold choclate milk shake when i read this, about 75% of it came out my nose. It was like reverse brain freeze, but it was much enjoyed!:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

:)

Heck, just driving in Chicago is enough of an obstacle course. The last time I did (about three months go), a guy who was parallel parked threw his door open right in front of me. There was no one in the lane to the left of me, so I was able to slow down and swerve.

Good thing it delayed me a couple of seconds, because shortly after that, a jogging couple ran out from between a couple of cars and crossed the street -- looking right at me, but they didn't stop. If I hadn't been delayed that couple of seconds by the guy with the door, we all would have had an unpleasant evening.

Only 6 more to go david, i'm rootin for ya.
Uhhh, by the way, is Chicago driving anywhere near as dangerous as europe driving?
Cuz i remember in England crossing the street was a little bit like frogger, and in Spain people are afraid to cross if its not a crosswalk... two bikers almost took me out once while jaywalking and I was asked if i was stupid or something. I told him not to disrespect the great American passtime of jaywalking, and he walked away. No one else bothered me on that street for the rest of my vacation :)

I can't make it to the Boot Camp, but I would "love" to get the info. Will you be porting the info to a DVD that we can watch? Is there any type of video training on how best to use a DVX100B or HVX200?

About the boot camp.

About the boot camp.

uh, not to be cynical but
is this a Cinematography/Lighting workshop or a more specific "how to use your camera" thing? I'd love to go but it's a little pricey for me and I know my DVX pretty well after a few years, plus I'd love to play around with the HVX and learn more about HD shooting since that's what I want when I have more loot, but thats even more expensive, and seems silly since I don't actually have an HVX. I don't know, I'm torn about it.
Sounds fun but I can't afford to drop a lot of money to be told what f-stops are and setting acurate focus. What can I expect we'll talk about there?
thanks,

That's why I did it, David. Not everyone appreciates my superhero work, so thanks.

Oh, btw, I'll be there! (Bootcamp)

Jarred,

I'm dying to get to this course, but you keep scheduling them the at the wrong time. (Taking my kid to NYU for her first semester on the 26th)

Any idea when the next continental U.S. course will be?

Specialed- having a camera is not neccesary at all. You'll still learn a lot and be ready to rock when you it arrives.

thanks,

In a nutshell- we go step by step through every possible setting of the camera. How to use it for maximum impact in lighting situations and then how to handle production and post-production workflows. The Bootcamps are not introductions to filmmaking in general. They are very focused on the specific camera- either HVX or DVX. Most alums have their minds blown. :)

Yepper.

Some peope come to learn more about the camera as part of their decision to buy or not.

I know I'd be going out of my mind waiting for an HVX and would sooo be at this thing (been twice and it rocks) so that when I opened the box in October I'd be a knowledge fiend and shooting like a madman from the get go.

darn, i wish i had my camera already... you couldnt have waited until october?

hahahah.. yeah we are having another one in October... in Hawaii... your welcome to come! :)

So what's the deal? Why is the Chicago bootcamp section feel like a red headed stepkid?

Are we in the Midwest so far ahead of LA and NY that there's nothing we can learn at a bootcamp?

I'm really looking forward to it. Even though I feel I can do an ok job with the HVX, I'd really like to know everything there is to know about it and put me that far ahead.

Heck, you can even sell your copy of Barry's book to someone who bought a grey market HVX and lower the cost of the bootcamp even more.

I'm coming into town Friday and was thinking maybe some of us might be able to get together and do some shooting downtown.

Two things I'm looking forward to next weekend, bootcamp and White Castle hamburgers!!!! :)

Sign up now people!

White castles? ehhh, I can feel my stomach starting to hurt just thinking about them.

I grew up on the South side of Chicago. White Castles and the smell of the stockyards. Yeah, that's a slice of heaven right there! :)

Thanks for the clarification, sounds like a fun time. Is there still space? I'll see if I can smash open the ol' piggy bank to make it. Dang, now the choice is to do the HVX one or the DVX one; I currently use a DVX but expect to switch to an HVX in another year or so. Will you guys ever come back to Chicago after this again?

I know what you mean, I'm guilty of such a defensive attitude myself, but I think it's pretty common for us midwesterners who often get the ol' "uh, what are you still doing there trying to eek it out? go to LA or NY!"
I love my midwest an I'm not going anywhere, but it's true we need the help as much as anybody. We just talk big.
I've actually met some LA producers who who don't trust me just because I'm dumb enough to stay here.
I hope I can make it, look forward to meeting some of you.:costumed-smiley-047
