Chicago Area 300 Owners

I am considering getting an HPX 300 and would like to know of any Chicago area owners. I need to be able to put multiple camera packages together but more importantly I'd like to discuss the 300 before buying one. I know what the issues are but have not spoken with a shooter who has real world experience with one. I am concerned about the skew issue with Jellovision, I can't slow down pans with a client by my side.

Otherwise I have to go with a 500 for more money and I'd rather just rent a 2700 for upper end clients than own a 500.

So, any Chicago 300 owners out there?

Thanks,

Ned

Hi Ned,

I also sent you a PM. Please get in touch.

Thanks,

That photo, I could only stand there for 5 seconds and told her to take it quick because my back was so hot! The camera got soaked and stopped working, figure I broke it but turned out the battery died.

If you go to the thread about Demo'd the camera today I talk at length about it.

I am researching which one to buy. Been finding out the hard way the 300 is useless for indoor b-roll without one. Some of my regular clients have been disappointed when shooting interiors. I am worried about he CAC if I put on an attachment, I am used to shooting with wide angle lenses and attachments have always degraded the image. Let me know if you buy anything.

I have been using the Fujinon TH13x3.5BRMU wide angle HD lens on my 300, and let me tell you it looks FANTASTIC! Granted the lens costs a small fortune, but it is leaps and bounds better than the stock lens on the 300. I also found that CA is not an issue whatsoever with the wide angle, it doesn't seem to matter that it doesn't have the CAC technology built into it.

I'm not sure if any of the Chicago rental houses have any of these available, but if they do you should try one out.

You guys know anyone who rents out dolly track? Preferably Spyder dolly? All of the rental companies are booked out and I need one for Monday morning 11/23 I am fully insured and all that mess.

Bought the Century Precision Optics WA-8XIF-LC 0.8x Zoom-Thru Wide and it looks good.

Thanks

I also own the Century... After a while i discovered some problems with it. You can get unsharp edges in your picture, espacially in full wide position....
Could you check this? Maybe something wrong with mine, or i save you from an unhappy surprise...

I was thinking of getting a Century adapter because the 300 is not wide enough for indoor b-roll. However, all adapters are softer at the edges, I'd like to get a real wide lens but at $7000 it doesn't make sense. So since you say the edges are soft, which I expect to a certain degree, I will go with 16x9's wide angle adapter for $600 at:
