Check-

Hey deedive/Aram, those BTS shots that were taken with the same lens as in the film ... are they also from the same camera (i.e. DVX/HVX)? They look great with ZERO noise that I can see on this end. Wonder why my DVX, even without an adapter, has so much noise?

hay norm,
those pictures where takin with a digital SLR. Aram might be better with the dvx question. But to get the sharpest picture i notice keeping the camera at around f5 and the lens around 2.8 with the ton of light gets the grain out. but thats not always possible.

timur, whats funny is that there is actually a yellow motorcycle in the film, just not so small.

And the dude's name on the motorcycle is just as "different". The way to get the grain out is to shoot flat and bring your contrast back in with after effects. It masks most of the grain in the blacks. I do have the master ped in the negative numbers but I turn the chroma waaaay down to mute the colors in hopes it will take the load off the CCDs during recording. Then in post bring them back up. I also think (not a fact) that the colors in post can be brought up more than the DV codec can handle in camera. Once its in post you can go past the color saturation limitations and stay uncompressed the rest of the time.

I agree aram. Though lately ive been shooting alot with the DVCpro stuff and lots a chroma. Like +4 +5, but only cause DVCPROHD can handle it. when shooting DV go the Desaturated route. that s the key to good results.

Yeah, I just hate that when working for other people they don't understand the flow. I'm shooting for a interior design magazine tomorrow and have to shoot what-you-see-is-what-you-get style and can't sit and show them how to handle the footage.
The 21st I'm shooting a music video and they are open to techniques but didn't want to go with the P2 flow but I'm going to talk them into it for the next one and show them how easy it would be for them to handle 720p and how the color space is worth the extra money.

people dont wanna hear colorspace, they wanna hear cheap. explain to then how they will spend less money in the editing room/CC suite and they will be all ears.

BTS Photos Part 2

Here are some more BTS photos from our shoot. These are not nearly as artful or beautiful as DeeDive's (in the second post of the thread) -- you'll definitely see why I'm the producer/AD and not in the camera department... Taken with my trusty Canon PowerShot SD630...

That's a wrap! Cast & Crew Photos

So, here we all are, happy to be done with principal photography. It was four long days of shooting, but based on the rough cuts I've seen, WELL WORTH the time and the long hours of pre-production discussions, storyboarding, logistics planning, etc. These are all from Sunday, April 29, but I just now downloaded them and looked at them, and they remind me of that arc that every production goes through: You start out all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed; mid-way through, you're thinking, "Oh, man, another shoot this weekend??? How're we gonna get all this done???" And then before you know it, you've wrapped and the joy is indescribable -- "We did it!!!"

LOL Dale, thats that I'm-in-pain-face you used to make after we played ball and your knees were killng you. I think the very first time I ever said anything to you I said, "damn dude, you look like you are in some serious pain." You said, "nah man, it doesnt hurt." Now you can see the same face I saw.

Yeah that hallway was really tight and it was really hard to hide the lights.

Great fun with the bts pix! Thanks for sharing. Damn, I just love being on a set!!!

Great photo of the Producer/AD and DP!!!
