Check my Specs (New PC)

I shoot in 24p which gets turfed to 29 point blah in premiere 6.5 but still ends up looking great, or if I really get horny to edit in a 24p timeline I will switch to Vegas. The drawback with the old RT2500 is thet it has no support for XP or Premiere pro. At this point in time I don't have enough justification to upgrade the card or OS, especially at a $2000.00 price tag. I was also going to suggest you take a look at the viewsonic VP200s lcd as a monitor solution.

Just an FYI to those thinking about getting the RTX100 (I have one and use it all the time):

The Matrox RTX100 is only designed to handle 29.976fps interlaced footage. Its support for real time editing of footage in that format is great. Note that it does not support progressive footage.

You can edit 24p normal and advanced footage as well as progressive with the RTX100 but only as a 29.976fps interlaced timeline. Note that the RTX100 is treating the footage as 29.976 and knows nothing of the 24pa encoding. So applying cross frame effects can produce poor results.

Yeah, I don't think I'm going to go with the RT.X100. I can't believe they haven't upgraded they're cards to handle 24p.

Mino- Why do you suggest those monitors? I'm really wanting some CRTs.

Partially because they want to sell their Axio card. The other reason, I'm betting, is that their older hardware (RTX100, etc) was never designed to support anything but 29.976 video.

The Axio stuff is rediculously expensive, isn't it?
Just $7500 smackaroos. But that's just for the SD version. Double the cost for the HD version. Oh, and toss in the cost for a fast desktop, lots of storage... Hmm, I would guess around $25K for a nice Axio HD setup.

No problem! :)

I have thought of it... but I've got so much software for my PC, I just don't think it would be worth it.

Plus the price jump isn't something that I'd be looking forward to.

agreed. however- educational discount for Final Cut Studio, which should have EVERYTHING you need, is only $699. JUST an idea, dont worry I'm not going mac fanatic on you. i'm still with you building, just an alternative

So, I just found out that I'll be editing on Avid Media Composers at school in the Spring. So I'm ditching definitely ditching the Matrox idea, and I'm going to pick up Avid Xpress DV and a Mojo.

That should get the job done.

Hey TC... I don't know if you are still planning on bulding your system, but I just got an e-mail that may interest you. It is for a free online course called "Build Your Own PC". You can check it out here:

HTH,
Larry

Wow, that's a great link, thanks Larry!

At this point, I'm definitely leaning towards building it. Which will be going down in December/ January.

And, by the way, I started out as a computer technician, then got my degree in computer electronics technology, and now work as a computer programmer. I have worked with PCs for 20+ years, so if you need it I can help. Plus I work in Pleasanton, about 30 minutes east of San Jose, so I'm not too far.

In the meantime, you can download Avid Free DV to get familiar with the Avid environment.

Larry- Awesome, I just might take ya up on that.

Terry- Downloading now, sweet deal. Thanks.

Just rendered a 240 frame Blender sequence. Not a horrible detailed or complicated one. It ran on a P4 3 GHz, with a gig-and-a-half of memory.

It took 23 hours.

You really might want to go with dual processors, or dual cores. Fast ones. And lots of RAM.

That is, if you ever plan on doing some CGI and such. :)
